Control of safety of foods exported to EU is to be further tightened

Control of safety of goods and plant quarantine for vegetables and fruit to be exported to EU should be further enhanced and tightened, declares the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in its official message No. 05 on February 14, 2012.
At the same time it is necessary to make planning and development of concentrated areas under vegetables and fruits in the direction of GAP (Good Agriculture Practices) put forth by the European Association of Retailers.

On the other hand, the Plant Protection Department should enhance the campaign of information dissemination and guidance for localities and businesses getting involved in exporting vegetables and fruit to the EU market so that they are kept well informed of the stipulations of food safety and hygiene and plant quarantine so as to be able to export only the lots of goods which guarantee well the requirements of EU. Besides they should intensify their coordination with the International Cooperation Department and the EU authorized agencies to have timely treatment of the happenings in Vietnam’s exporting vegetables and fruits to EU.

The General Department of Customs should join hands with the Plant Protection Department to tighten their control and examination of the lots of vegetables and fruits to be exported to EU with the granting of the certificates of plant quarantine before allowing customs clearance for these lots of goods./.
