42/48 World Cup teams have been determined
After the qualifying round in November, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has determined 42/48 participating teams. The specific 42 teams are as follows:
- Co-hosts (3): Canada, Mexico, United States
- Asia (8): Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan.
- Africa (9): Algeria, Cabo Verde, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia.
- North Central America and the Caribbean (3): Curaçao, Haiti, Panama.
- South America (6): Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay.
- Oceania (1): New Zealand.
- Europe (12): Austria, Belgium, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland.
* The 2026 World Cup still has 6 spots to be determined in March 2026. Of which, 2 spots are for the winners of the intercontinental play-off and 4 spots for the winners of the European play-off.
Seed division
According to the latest rankings, FIFA has divided 48 teams into 4 seed groups. Group 1 includes the teams: Canada, Mexico, United States, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany.
The teams Croatia, Morocco, Colombia, Uruguay, Switzerland, Japan, Senegal, Iran, South Korea, Ecuador, Austria, Australia are in pot 2.
Group 3 includes Norway, Panama, Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Paraguay, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa.
Jordan, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Curaçao, Haiti, New Zealand and the six play-off winners are in pot 4.
The draw will be conducted starting from group 1 into groups A to L. Then the same process will take place in groups 2, 3 and 4.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held next summer in the United States, Mexico and Canada. It will be the first World Cup to feature 48 teams.
