13 injured in rampage in Seoul

Police arrested the suspect in his 20s just 10 minutes after receiving a report at around 5:55 p.m. local time that a man was attacking multiple people with a knife at a department store next to Seohyeon subway station.

In the incident, nine people were stabbed by the attacker, while four others were injured when the attacker used his car to hit them. Police said 12 victims were hospitalized.

According to witnesses at the scene, the suspect was dressed in black, wearing sunglasses and brandishing a knife about 50 to 60 centimeters long. They added that the suspect entered the department store after ramming a number of pedestrians with his car.

While some witnesses have suggested there was more than one perpetrator, police have concluded there was no accomplice. Police say the suspect has remained silent, including about his motive.

The incident comes just days after another rare knife attack in Seoul, in which one person was killed and three others injured.
