Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, Mai Thi Ngoc Oanh, said that the exhibition brings together a large number of members currently active in Hanoi and many localities across the country. This year, the event introduces 170 works by 160 artists, expressed in various materials such as oil paint, lacquer, acrylic, mixed media, ceramics, etc. According to Ms. Mai Thi Ngoc Oanh, the quantity and quality of the participating works show the commitment and positive response of members to the Association's professional activities, and also reflect the continuous development of Vietnamese fine arts over the past nearly 70 years, with the increasingly prominent contribution of young artists.
This year's exhibition space is marked by its richness of themes and diversity of styles. The theme of spring is explored in depth through abstract, expressive, and realistic techniques, creating a vibrant and emotionally rich overall picture. In the landscape section, many works depict the slow pace of life and the beautiful, abundant scenery of Vietnamese rural areas, such as: "Beside the Nho Que River," "Spring Comes to the Village," "Uoc Le Village Temple," "Sunshine on Long Bien Bridge," "Through the Northwest," "Central Highlands," etc.
The portraits and scenes depicting daily life are deeply rooted in ethnic culture, featuring images of ethnic women at their embroidery frames, their traditional costumes standing out against a tranquil backdrop. The paintings emphasize the beauty of handicrafts, community life, and traditional values preserved through generations.
In addition, the theme of the Year of the Horse (Bính Ngọ) has been explored by many artists through works such as "White Horse," "Two Horses," "The Divine Horse Has Arrived," "Year of the Horse"... using strong masses, decisive lines, emphasizing structural form and rhythmic movement, thereby highlighting the spirit of new beginnings, dynamism, and expectations for the new year.
Artist Ly Thu Ha presents her work "Welcoming the Year of the Horse" at the exhibition, inspired by the year of the horse and her love for Quan Ho folk songs. Her impression of the young Quan Ho folk singers during a field trip prompted her to incorporate the image of the horse into her work as a symbol of the inheritance and dissemination of traditional cultural values. The painting conveys her hope for a prosperous and fulfilling new year, expressing her belief in the vitality of national heritage.
Meanwhile, veteran artist Pham Phi Chau presented his work "Meo Vac Welcomes Spring" at the exhibition, recreating the daily life of the highland people in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). The painting depicts the bustling rhythm of life as people embroider, sew, and prepare new clothes, creating a joyful atmosphere in this northernmost region of the country. The artist said that every spring, Meo Vac seems to put on a new coat, nature transforms miraculously, making the once barren rocky landscape suddenly burst with life. For the artist, Meo Vac is not just a place or destination, but also an endless source of inspiration in his artistic journey.
Commenting on this year's exhibition celebrating the Party and the Lunar New Year, artist Pham Phi Chau said that the exhibited works are rich in subject matter and fresh in style. While in the past many artists participated with a free-spirited attitude, creating for enjoyment, this year, the meticulous investment in technique and serious spirit in artistic work are clearly evident. Each artist chose to present their most cherished works, contributing to the diverse appearance of the exhibition space.
The exhibition is open to the public until February 28th.
