According to Timesofindia , the American global security software company McAfee recently discovered many malicious applications capable of hacking phones running the Android operating system.
McAfee's report said there were 25 malicious apps, each with more than 1 million installs and successfully attacked 338,300 devices through the Android "backdoor" vulnerability.
McAfee researchers said Android phones can be infected with viruses in two stages. First, when users download the malicious app to their devices, they will gain access using "psychological manipulation" techniques, then connect to their servers to exploit vulnerabilities and automatically download the second malware.
If the second stage malware is successfully downloaded and installed, it will take full control of the device and perform fraudulent actions, such as illegally taking money, automatically clicking ads without the user's consent.
According to McAfee, most of the infections occurred on devices in the United States, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. Notably, the hacked phones all had these apps installed since mid-2020.

McAfee recommends that users should immediately delete the following applications from their Android phones, including: Essential Horoscope, 3D Skin Editor for PE Minecraft, Logo Maker Pro, Auto Click Repeater, Count Easy Calorie Calculator, LetterLink, Sound Volume Booster, Track Your Sleep, Universal Calculator, Sound Volume Extender...
Currently, these apps on Google Play have been removed but are still available on third-party "stores".
"Android users should limit downloading apps from third-party sources, use only necessary apps, read user reviews before installing, and check the information of the app developer/publisher," McAfee experts recommend.
