Clarivate's Highly Cited Researchers list is published annually to recognize the most influential researchers in their fields. This year, the list features 6,849 scientists from more than 1,300 institutions in 67 countries and regions. The list includes the United States (2,669) and China (1,275). In Southeast Asia, Singapore (109), Malaysia (10) and Thailand (3).

On its website, Clarivate says that to be included in the list, each researcher must be the author of papers that are in the top 1% of their field's citation counts, based on papers published within the past 10 years as indexed by Web of Science.

The evaluation and selection process is conducted by Clarivate's internal research team at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) using data and analysis by bibliometricians and data scientists. Specifically, based on the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), a calculation method based on analysis and selection from 10 years of Web of Science data, Clarivate Analytics will select the most cited researchers in 21 fields.
