On October 26, at a regular press conference, in response to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's response to information about citizens being rescued from fraudulent casinos in northern Myanmar, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said:
In recent days, the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar as well as the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs received information from Myanmar authorities stating that nearly 200 foreigners, including Vietnamese citizens, were rescued from fraudulent casinos in the northern border area of Myanmar.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar was instructed to work with local authorities to verify information about the incident, requesting the Myanmar side to ensure accommodation for Vietnamese citizens in Myanmar and promptly investigate and verify the personal information of these citizens. So far, the Embassy has identified 61 people as Vietnamese citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar and relevant units to immediately coordinate with domestic and Myanmar authorities to carry out necessary consular procedures, develop protection plans and support the return of citizens to the country as soon as possible after Myanmar has a final conclusion on this incident.
