On the morning of October 13 in Hanoi , Luong Duc Phuoc won the 10km race of the VPIM 2024 international marathon.

This is an international race that brings together 11,000 athletes from 20 countries and territories to compete in 4 popular distances: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km (half marathon) and 42 km (marathon). There are a total of 28 events for men and women, divided by distance and age group. The total prize value of VPIM 2024 is up to more than 2 billion VND.

In the 10km race, Luong Duc Phuoc, Nguyen Hoang Thinh and Lo Bao Tam were the first three athletes to cross the finish line. Doan Thu Hang - a promising runner of Vietnamese athletics - finished first in the women's category, followed by Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh and Ly Ngoc Ha.

Another national athlete, Bui Thi Ngan (who won 2 silver medals at the 32nd SEA Games), also won the VPIM 2024 - women's 5km. Bui Thi Thu Ha (1 gold medal, 1 silver medal at the 2024 Southeast Asian University Games) competed in the 21km distance and became the champion.

In the marathon, the overall male and female champions were both athletes from Kenya. They were Japhet Rono (male) and Jane Wanjiru Muriuki (female).

The entire VPIM running route is measured, and lighting, security, and medical plans are standardized according to international standards by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Runners can use VPIM2024 results to register for international competitions in the Six Majors system.

The runners started from Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square - Hoan Kiem Lake walking street and ended at Thien Quang walking street - Thong Nhat Park gate. The VPIM route passed through many places in the "Creative Crossroads" - the theme of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 such as Children's Palace, State Bank, Bac Bo Palace, Trang Tien Street, Ly Thai To Flower Garden, and Con Coc Flower Garden.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong - Director of VPBank's Communications and Marketing Center said: “VPIM 2024 is a new and wonderful initiative where the spirit of sports is sublimated with art. Continuing to be imbued with the spirit of Hanoi Vibes, associated with creative values and elite marks, VPIM 2024 will be an explosive start for the Hanoi Creative Design Festival this November. We hope that the race will bring inspiration to social creativity as well as affirm Hanoi's position as the "creative conductor" of Vietnam."

“The course has more space at the finish line, allowing runners to adjust the length of the course while still maintaining plenty of space for the runners behind them as they cross the finish line,” said Kim Vivian, an expert at the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). “My main advice to runners is to save some energy until you cross the Long Bien Bridge, then once you’re off the bridge, dig deep and accelerate at 4.1km from the finish line.”
