Following the incident in which Iraqi journalists attacked head coach Jesus Casas, the AFC issued a statement and imposed penalties on those involved.
" The AFC strongly condemns any acts of arrogance and aggression. The AFC has a zero-tolerance stance towards such actions. We promote the creation of a professional and respectful environment for journalists to work and report on Asian football.
The AFC is deeply disappointed by the actions of the press conference following the Iraq-Jordan match. We have decided to ban all individuals involved in reporting on the 2023 Asian Cup and future AFC competitions. Acknowledgment is a privilege that comes with a responsibility to uphold ethical standards and those who violate it must face the consequences ," the AFC said in a statement.
The AFC also stressed: " We believe our response in this case will act as a deterrent by sending a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated ."

In addition, the AFC does not discuss the issue of referees. However, the most powerful body of Asian football opposes any form of intimidation, harassment or disclosure of personal information of referees, players, officials and related parties.
The incident occurred after Iraq lost to Jordan in the 1/8 round of the 2023 Asian Cup. During the press conference, coach Jesus Casas was provoked and almost attacked by some Iraqi reporters. Security forces and AFC officials were forced to invite Iraqi reporters out of the press conference room to ensure order.
The press conference continued with foreign reporters asking questions to the Spanish coach. Mr. Casas believes that this incident was pre-arranged.
" It was a pre-planned campaign. They are not journalists. We should understand the definition of journalists differently. Some of them use Instagram with up to 100,000 followers ," said Jesus Casas.
" The Asian Football Confederation must do something. This is clearly a pre-planned campaign against the president of the federation. It's like a play. It's really unpleasant that the image of Iraq, which has always welcomed me and I love it, is being tarnished ," said Jesus Casas.
