Ronaldo still has a contract with Al Nassr. |
According to Saudi Arabian media, Al Nassr began approaching Pep Guardiola immediately after winning the Saudi Pro League in the 2025/26 season. The team's goal is to bring the Spanish strategist in to coach Cristiano Ronaldo during the final stages of his career.
This information was confirmed to Okaz by Josep Maria Orobitg, Guardiola's agent.
"Contact was made about a month and a half ago, but it was only at the exploratory stage; there was no formal commitment or proposal," Orobitg said.
Previously, several sources revealed that Al Nassr was willing to pay nearly 130 million euros per season to persuade Guardiola to move to Saudi Arabia. However, Pep's representatives denied this figure.
"It's not that bad," Orobitg shared.
Not only Al Nassr, but the Saudi Arabian Football Federation is also said to have contacted Guardiola recently. After appointing Georgios Donis to replace Hervé Renard in April, Saudi Arabian football still wants to bring in a world -class coach for long-term projects.
However, Guardiola's departure from Manchester City remains uncertain. The Spanish manager has a contract with the Etihad Stadium club until 2027, but rumors of his departure after the 2025/26 season have been circulating.
When asked about his future, Guardiola remained quite secretive.
"I've said it many times already, I still have a year left on my contract," Pep recently told the English media.
If the deal goes through, world football will witness Guardiola and Cristiano Ronaldo working together for the first time. In the past, the two were fierce rivals in La Liga when Pep managed Barcelona and Ronaldo played for Real Madrid.
At 41, Ronaldo remains central to Al Nassr's development plans, both professionally and commercially. After helping the team end a seven-year Saudi Pro League title drought, the Portuguese superstar continues to be seen as the league's biggest icon.
