Veteran Tran Trong Khoan (fourth from right) was moved when he received a house "of comradeship".

In addition to its material significance, each "comradely affection" house in Hai Phong also carries affection, sharing and enhances the comradely affection of veterans and Uncle Ho's soldiers.

Happy to receive new house

In the new, spacious house, the eyes of veteran Tran Trong Khoan, born in 1956, in An Hai ward, shine with joy. Mr. Khoan enlisted in the army in March 1975. In 1990, he was demobilized and returned to his hometown. His family is in a difficult situation as his wife and one daughter have passed away, and one daughter is married and living on her own. Mr. Khoan lives alone in a house built in 1986, which is seriously degraded. In the rainy season, water leaks through the roof, in the winter, the wind blows coldly. His wish for a tall, clean house has not been fulfilled.

Understanding that situation, the Veterans Association of the city, Hai Phong City Customs Department (now the Customs Department of Region 3), the former An Duong district, along with the local Party Committee, government and people joined hands to build a house for Mr. Khoan. After more than 2 months of construction, the new house of 40 square meters, worth nearly 300 million VND, was completed. The house is a gift, containing the love of comrades and comrades, and helps Mr. Khoan have a spacious and convenient place to live.

In Tran Phu commune, veteran Pham Van Doan and his wife were choked up when they received 80 million VND in support to build a new house. Thanks to the support of the Veterans Association of Hai Duong province (old), local authorities, mass organizations and clans, the new 80 m² house was completed. The Lau Khe village Veterans Association mobilized more than 40 million VND in materials.

Veteran Pham Van Doan and his wife emotionally shared: “We are both old, in poor health, and often sick. The old house was built a long time ago so it is seriously degraded and dilapidated, but the family has not had the means to repair it. With the support of our comrades, authorities, sectors, and people, we are able to live in a new, more spacious house.”

Being able to live in a spacious, clean and beautiful "comradely love" house, veteran Tran Manh Nhi and his wife, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mat (Ai Quoc ward), were very happy. Mrs. Mat was moved: "From the floor to the door, the kitchen... everything is new and solid. My husband and I are very happy. This house is thanks to the support of the Veterans Association of Hai Duong city (old)".

Excited and moved are the feelings of many veteran members in the city when they live in new houses built by their comrades. Many veterans are old, in poor health, and still have the consequences of war, making their lives more difficult. Renovating or building a new house has become a long-standing dream for many people. The understanding and sharing of comrades is not only a source of material support but also a valuable spiritual medicine, helping them to be confident and more motivated in life.

Strengthening camaraderie

The "comradeship" houses were built to demonstrate the strong team spirit of Uncle Ho's soldiers.

Behind each individual house is a large movement and profound humanitarian spirit that has been cultivated by all levels of the City Veterans Association over many years.

"Repaying gratitude is not only a responsibility but also a command from the hearts of Uncle Ho's soldiers". Imbued with that, veterans' associations at all levels always closely coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels, social organizations, unions and many units and businesses to implement a series of gratitude programs. Many activities are organized such as supporting medical examination and treatment, providing free medicine, giving wheelchairs and savings books to poor members; visiting and caring for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; organizing nursing care for elderly members; giving bicycles to children of veterans... From 2022 to now, veterans' associations at all levels have given more than 12,700 gifts, worth more than 25 billion VND to veterans and families of policy beneficiaries.

In particular, the work of building "comradeship" houses has always been of interest and widely implemented by all levels of the Veterans Association. From 2022 to June 2025, the Association at all levels will join hands to support the construction and repair of 328 houses for members with housing difficulties, with a total cost of more than 13 billion VND.

According to comrade Dinh Van Truy, Vice Chairman of the City Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the City Veterans Association: The good news is that along with the funding from all levels of the association, there is always the joint support of sectors, organizations, local authorities, families, and clans. At the groundbreaking ceremony or handover of "comradely affection" houses, there is always the participation of representatives of the Party Committee, government, local organizations and financial and material support, helping members have more motivation to improve their lives.

The “comradeship” houses help many veterans have conditions to settle down, stabilize their lives, and actively contribute to the construction of new rural areas, civilized urban areas, poverty reduction, and socio -economic development in localities. In addition to the material value, each newly built or repaired house also has great meaning and spiritual value, enhancing the comradeship and comradeship of Uncle Ho’s soldiers in peacetime.
