Affected departments include personnel, equipment, services and the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing division. Internal sources say the human resources department could be cut by up to 15%, as workflows are now taken over by AI.
CEO Andy Jassy asserts that implementing AI tools helps eliminate repetitive positions, improving productivity across the system. Analysts say Amazon has “reaped enough benefits from AI” to drastically reduce the size of its traditional staff. While it is still hiring 250,000 seasonal workers at the end of the year, the layoffs show that Amazon is moving deeper into the era of automation.
