An Giang wants to remove many obstacles to welcome guests from the APEC 2027 event in Phu Quoc

Local tourism businesses hope that the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, the An Giang Department of Tourism and relevant units need to develop a code of conduct, establish a tourist police team and an international visitor support center during the APEC 2027 event in Phu Quoc.

On the afternoon of December 8, the People's Committee of An Giang province held a conference on tourism, foreign affairs, and border affairs in 2025 and deployed directions and tasks for 2026. Local tourism businesses offered many suggestions on preparing for the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in 2027 in Phu Quoc (APEC 2027).

What difficulties does An Giang tourism still face?

Mr. Bui Quoc Thai - Director of An Giang Department of Tourism - said that in 2025, An Giang will welcome more than 24.1 million visitors, including more than 1.9 million international visitors, with total revenue reaching more than 56,000 billion VND.

However, An Giang tourism is still facing many difficulties and challenges such as inadequate tourism activities and rising prices, especially air tickets.

Infrastructure to connect local tourist areas has not received due attention, so the construction of tours, routes and tourism products and services by businesses is still not good in some places.

The quality of tourism human resources in Phu Quoc, Ha Tien and the seven mountains of An Giang has not met requirements, reducing competitiveness.

Mr. Thai added that the department proposed that the People's Committee of An Giang province focus on upgrading and repairing traffic infrastructure to connect key tourist areas of Phu Quoc - Ha Tien and the seven mountains of An Giang.

The project development unit cooperates with colleges and universities in the Mekong Delta to train high-quality human resources for tourism, especially for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in 2027 in Phu Quoc (APEC 2027).

In addition, the department promotes digital transformation to spread the image of Phu Quoc tourism to international tourists.

What should An Giang tourism businesses prepare to welcome APEC 2027?

Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy - Chairman of An Giang Tourism Association - proposed that the People's Committee of An Giang province, the Department of Tourism of An Giang, and the People's Committee of Phu Quoc special zone develop a code of conduct for tourism businesses to apply synchronously to serve international visitors during APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc.

It is necessary to standardize 100% of documents, maps, and images of Phu Quoc tourism (converted into bilingual English and Vietnamese) to widely disseminate entertainment spots in Phu Quoc.

Local authorities need to soon establish a tourist police team in Phu Quoc to solve security issues and establish a tourism management center or office in Phu Quoc to promptly resolve arising problems and difficulties; establish a support center for tourists at gateways and tourist attractions in Phu Quoc.

An Giang province also needs to have a suitable visa policy mechanism for international visitors to Phu Quoc and then go to Ha Tien or the seven mountains of An Giang for fun.

"We hope that the locality will step up communication and promotion of Phu Quoc tourism destination and train tourism human resources who are knowledgeable and follow international cultural standards of other countries to serve international visitors. We are also encouraging members of the Association to maintain stable prices to better serve visitors," Mr. Huy suggested.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Van Phuoc - Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee - requested the An Giang Department of Tourism and the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Zone to urgently develop and implement a plan to train human resources to serve the APEC 2027 event.

"Relevant units need to carry out the tasks of the sub-committees assigned by the An Giang Provincial Steering Committee to the tourism sector (Sub-committee on Materials and Logistics, Sub-committee on Protocol) and especially advise the province to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare well for the successful organization of APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc," Mr. Phuoc emphasized.

An Giang Department of Tourism sets a target that in 2026, An Giang will welcome about 25 million visitors, including about 2.1 million international visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching about 70,000 billion VND.
