Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for those at risk or suffering from thyroid disease. After a long night, the body needs steady energy to activate the metabolism. If you eat breakfast incorrectly, thyroid hormones can easily be disrupted, making the body tired, lethargic and reducing work efficiency throughout the day.

Here are four types of breakfast to avoid to protect your thyroid:

Too many sweets, white bread and industrial cakes

Pastries, white bread, sweetened milk, and sugary cereals all cause blood sugar to spike rapidly. This spike stimulates the thyroid to produce more hormones than usual to balance metabolism.

In the long run, this can cause hormonal disruption, making the body tired, gaining weight and quickly becoming hungry again.

You should prioritize whole grains, oats, eggs, and unsweetened milk to provide stable and long-lasting energy.

Drink strong coffee or tea when hungry

Ideally, you should spend about 15-20 minutes on breakfast, eat slowly, chew thoroughly and eat until you are full.

In addition, to have a healthy breakfast that does not affect other organs, you should choose foods that are easy to digest but still ensure the following 4 principles: (i) Breakfast should have enough protein, be rich in fiber and limit refined sugar; (ii) drink enough water right after waking up; (iii) avoid skipping meals or eating too late; (iv) people taking thyroid medication should take the medication 30-60 minutes before eating to avoid interactions with food.

A scientific breakfast not only helps the body stay awake but also supports stable thyroid function, reducing the risk of hormonal disorders and long-term metabolic problems.
