On the afternoon of December 15th, Long Thanh International Airport welcomed its first commercial aircraft, flight number VN5001, followed by the successful takeoff of flight number VN5002. This event is significant in the final assessment of operational conditions and preparation for the official flight scheduled to land on December 19th.

Flight VN5001, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, took off from Tan Son Nhat International Airport at 3:20 PM and landed at Long Thanh International Airport at approximately 4:00 PM on December 15th. Later that same day, at around 6:00 PM, flight VN5002 successfully took off from Long Thanh Airport.

At approximately 6 PM on the same day, flight VN5002 also successfully took off from Long Thanh Airport. The event of two flights landing and taking off on the afternoon of December 15th played a crucial role in comprehensively evaluating the technical infrastructure, service procedures, and coordination capabilities between units at Vietnam's largest airport. According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the investor of the Long Thanh Airport Component Project Phase 1 (Component 3), the consortium of contractors has mobilized hundreds of construction teams, more than 15,000 experts, engineers, workers, and laborers, and over 3,000 pieces of construction equipment to accelerate progress with the goal of putting it into commercial operation in the first half of 2026, as directed by the Prime Minister .
Long Thanh Airport is being built on an area of over 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province. The project has an estimated total investment of over 16 billion USD, divided into 3 phases. Phase 1 is over 5.4 billion USD, with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. After the completion of all phases, Long Thanh Airport will reach a capacity of up to 100 million passengers per year and become the largest airport in Vietnam, serving as a transit hub in Southeast Asia and competing with major airports worldwide .
