Soldier Nguyen Van Kip (also known as Dong Den) was born in 1939 in Vinh Loc commune (now Vinh Loc commune, Ho Chi Minh City). He enlisted in August 1958 and, from then until his death, continuously served within Saigon.
Over a period of nine years, Hero Dong Den fought 83 battles, killed 153 enemy soldiers, destroyed 25 aircraft and 15 military vehicles. Notably, during the second attack on Tan Son Nhat airport on November 21, 1966, as a battalion officer, Nguyen Van Kip directly led a reconnaissance team to gather intelligence on the enemy and subsequently commanded his unit in coordination with other units, destroying three large bomb depots and 74 aircraft...
Structured into three parts: Homeland, The Hero of Dong Den and the Legendary Battles, and Memories of Those Who Remain, the publication "The Hero of Dong Den - Bringing Glory to Vinh Loc" not only recreates the life and noble revolutionary career of the Hero of Dong Den, but also vividly portrays the history of Vinh Loc commune from ancient times to the present day.

Besides the hero Dong Den, there were many other brave and resilient people there who were ready to sacrifice themselves for the cause of national independence, such as Tran Thi Sau, Phan Thi Tai, Truong Van Man, Nguyen Thi Bua…
It was on this very land of Vinh Loc that many battles took place during the resistance war against the US to save the country, becoming a "red address" of patriotism, of the spirit of "We would rather sacrifice everything than lose our country, than be enslaved," as President Ho Chi Minh affirmed in his Call to Arms for National Resistance in 1946.
From July 1st, 2025, the entire country began implementing a two-tiered local government system, which has brought about many changes not only in geographical space but also in the culture and history of each region.
Therefore, the publication of "Heroes of Dong Den - Glorious Vinh Loc" is essential and should be replicated in many localities. It is precisely through publications with such "local history" that the past is connected to the present, ensuring that the history of a person and a land continues to live on in the hearts of Vietnamese people today and in the future.
