For a long time, the name Nguyen Van Xuan has been familiar to people in remote and disadvantaged areas, where life is still very difficult. In mid-November, we happened to meet him during a work trip to Cao Son commune, a mountainous area where the lives of some people are still very hard. The man, with his simple, somewhat austere appearance but eyes full of joy, was with his fellow volunteers personally handing out gifts to underprivileged children, his love and compassion dispelling the early winter chill.

Mr. Nguyen Van Xuan (fourth from the left) and the volunteer group present gifts and share with underprivileged children in Cao Son commune.
For nearly a year now, Mr. Xuan has been tirelessly traveling to remote villages and treacherous roads to share his charitable spirit with people in disadvantaged areas. When many regions in the North suffered from floods, landslides, and isolation, Mr. Xuan and his volunteer teams tirelessly collected supplies, food, and cash to support the people. He believes in a simple principle: "Giving for a day is receiving in return with a light heart." This philosophy is the driving force behind his persistent charitable work day after day.

Mr. Xuan visited the people and children in disadvantaged areas.
For a long time now, the Hoa Binh Social Work Center has been a loving destination for children and for Mr. Xuan himself.

Mr. Xuan was honored as a National Exemplary Volunteer in 2025.
Nguyen Nhat Long, a young child at the Center, said emotionally: "We are grateful to receive the affection of a father figure, Xuan, who is always kind, loving, caring, and attentive to our lives, guiding and asking about our well-being. We feel like we are living in a warm and loving family."
Witnessing the hardship and expense faced by poor dialysis patients from remote (former) districts like Lac Son, Yen Thuy, Mai Chau, and Kim Boi, in 2021, after discussing with his wife, he and his wife decided to build a free boarding house right next to the Provincial General Hospital.
The boarding house is fully equipped with amenities such as a TV, refrigerator, water heater, fan, cooking stove, and dishes, providing a comfortable place for patients and their families to live. Mr. and Mrs. Xuan pay for all electricity and water bills. Furthermore, he regularly donates rice, meat, vegetables, and other food items to support the patients every month. Mr. Xuan's boarding house typically houses 7-10 dialysis patients.
Mr. Bui Van My, born in 1981, residing in Rai hamlet, Muong Vang commune, is a dialysis patient staying at Mr. Xuan's guesthouse. Mr. My recounted: "Illness plagued me, my family's finances were depleted, and each trip to the hospital was a journey through the worries of food and clothing, and the pain of the disease. In those difficult times, the free accommodation and the supportive kindness of Mr. Xuan were a source of spiritual strength, giving me more faith to continue treatment and to continue living."
That small boarding house has truly become a "shelter of love," a shared home for poor patients. It not only helps them save on living expenses, but more importantly, it gives them faith, strength, and a sense of not being abandoned, enabling them to continue their long fight against illness.
In addition, he actively participates in the charitable activity "Accompanying Dialysis Patients". His volunteer team organizes regular free meals at Hoa Binh General Hospital.
