NDO – Two months after the flood and landslide disasters in Lao Cai, children in Kho Vang, Nam Tong (Bac Ha district) or Lang Nu (Bao Yen) areas can smile innocently, waiting for a brighter future ahead.
For nearly 2 months now, 18 households in Nam Tong village, Nam Luc commune (Bac Ha, Lao Cai) have been temporarily residing on a hill not far from their old village. |
After the landslide disaster in early September, they have gradually gotten used to the new rhythm of life. In the photo, Ms. Thao Thi Dau, 9 years old, carries baby Ly Seo Tung on her back, wandering around the temporary shelter on the hill in Nam Luc commune. Still not yet recovered from the landslide disaster in Nam Tong, Ms. Thao said: Now she just hopes to have a new house soon to stabilize her life. |
Every afternoon, Mong women in Nam Tong village still carry their children on their backs, standing on the slope looking back at the old village, which is now covered with mud and dirt... |
In the makeshift tent, the children are still too young to understand the hardships they and their families are going through… |
... But it is the children who become new hope for adults - hope that is kindled in their innocent, clear eyes... |
For Lu Seo Nuong, the village Party Secretary, the future of Nam Tong will begin with the young generation like the baby Ly Seo Tung he holds in his arms... |
“The children are still too young to fully understand the disaster their parents went through. We adults, seeing the children’s smiles, have more motivation to rebuild,” Lu Seo Nuong said, holding the two children tightly in her arms and smiling. |
New joy on the top of Nam Tong hill... (Photo taken at the beginning of the month November 2024). |
Not far away is the temporary residence of households in Kho Vang village, Coc Lau commune. Due to the risk of landslides, households had to move here, while waiting for the new residence which is being urgently built. |
Every afternoon, children still innocently play next to the temporary tents. |
Their toys are a discarded medicine bottle or a broken plane – something left over from the unforgettable evacuation at Kho Vang. |
Innocence still shines on the faces of little angels… |
Despite the difficulties, the children still find their own joy… |
Children's smiles at Kho Vang today... |
In Lang Nu village (Bao Yen), a new normal life is also quietly returning... |
The eyes of the little girl from Lang Nu Village seem to be unaware of the pain that adults have to go through. Those eyes seem to contain only hope – hope for the future that is sprouting ahead from the sturdy houses of today… |
