'Most unique tropical depression in history' enters East Sea, storm number 15 'moving slowly'

The 'most unique' tropical depression in history has entered the East Sea. The intensity of storm No. 15 (storm Koto) is still at level 9 - 10 but its moving speed is only 5 km/hour.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that early this morning, November 29, a tropical depression from the sea east of Malaysia entered the East Sea, where storm No. 15 (storm Koto) is active.

At 7:00 a.m. this morning, the center of the tropical depression was at about 5.1 degrees north latitude and 105.2 degrees east longitude, in the southwestern sea of ​​the southern East Sea. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was at level 6 - 7, equivalent to a wind speed of 39 - 61 km/h, gusting to level 9. The tropical depression moved in a northeast direction at a speed of 10 - 15 km/h.

It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move mainly in the east-northeast direction at a speed of about 15 km/h and will likely weaken and dissipate in the eastern sea of ​​the southern East Sea. The depression will cause strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 9, waves of 2.5-4 m high, causing rough seas in the southern East Sea (sea area west of Truong Sa special zone), without affecting the southern mainland.

Also according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 7:00 a.m. this morning, the center of storm No. 15 was at about 13.6 degrees north latitude and 112.3 degrees east longitude, about 320 km northwest of Song Tu Tay Island, with intensity of level 9 - 10.

Forecast in the next 24 hours, the storm will move north, from December 1st the storm will move west. On December 2nd, storm No. 15 will move west-southwest, then deviate south, gradually weaken and may become a tropical depression or low pressure before making landfall in the Central region.

Storm No. 15 can cause strong winds of level 6 - 7, then increasing to level 8, gusts of level 9 - 10, waves 4 - 6 m high, rough seas in the sea area from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa.

Due to the influence of storm circulation No. 15 (storm Koto), it is forecasted that on land from December 2-3, from Hue to Khanh Hoa (focusing on the coast), there will be moderate to heavy rain with rainfall of about 70 - 150 mm.
