"As a result of Azerbaijan's provocation, four servicemen were killed and one was injured on the Armenian side," the Armenian Defense Ministry said in a statement on September 1, according to AFP.
The agency earlier said Azerbaijan had fired at Armenian positions near the town of Sotk, less than 10 kilometers from the border between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan said two of its soldiers were wounded by an Armenian drone attack in the Kalbajar region, across the border, and another was wounded in fighting between the two sides.
"We declare that all responsibility for the tension and its consequences lies with the military -political leadership in Armenia," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

Tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia have escalated sharply in recent months, with both sides accusing the other of carrying out cross-border attacks, as well as spreading disinformation.
The latest clashes mark a new setback in efforts to reach peace between the Caucasus neighbours, who have been bitterly embroiled in a decades-long dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh. The region is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan but is largely populated by ethnic Armenians.
Armenia accused Azerbaijan of blocking food and aid supplies to towns in Nagorno-Karabakh through the Lachin Corridor, the only road connecting Armenia to the region.
Armenia and international aid groups have also warned that the humanitarian situation in the region is worsening, with people lacking food and medicine.
The two sides have failed to reach a lasting peace solution despite mediation efforts by the European Union, the United States and Russia.
