13th ASEAN Para Games: Vietnamese chess team reaps a bountiful medal haul, swimming continues to break records.

On January 23rd, the next day of competition at the 13th ASEAN Para Games, the Vietnamese Paralympic team continued its strong performance, winning more gold medals in swimming and chess.

Concluding the standard chess event at the 13th ASEAN Para Games , Vietnamese chess players with disabilities excellently won 7 gold medals.

After three days of competition, with unwavering dedication and a spirit of overcoming their own limitations, Vietnamese disabled chess players excelled, winning 7 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals across 12 events.

Outstanding performances were seen from chess players Doan Thu Huyen (women's individual standard chess PI), Tran Ngoc Loan (women's individual standard chess B1), Nguyen Thi Hong (women's individual standard chess B2/3), and Dao Tuan Kiet (men's individual standard chess B1), who respectively won individual gold medals.

In addition, Vietnamese disabled chess players also excelled, winning 3 gold medals in the women's team category B1, women's team category B2/3, and women's team category PI.

The chess team's 7 gold medals have brought the total number of gold medals for the Vietnamese Paralympic Team to 24, placing them temporarily 5th in the overall standings.

On January 24th and 25th, Vietnamese disabled chess players continued to compete in the rapid and blitz chess events.

In swimming, swimmer Vi Thi Hang brought home another gold medal in the women's 100m backstroke (SB6-7 disability category) for the swimming team.

In this event, Vi Thi Hang competed for the gold medal against two athletes from Thailand and one from Malaysia. The swimmer born in 1990 demonstrated her superiority by finishing first with a time of 1 minute 43 seconds 20, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up. This achievement earned Vi Thi Hang the gold medal and simultaneously broke the Games record (the previous record was 1 minute 51 seconds 44). This marks the second time the swimmer from Thanh Hoa has achieved this at the 13th ASEAN Para Games.

In the evening competition on January 23rd, athletics also brought the Vietnamese sports delegation another gold medal from Nguyen Thi Hai (F57 shot put); and 6 silver medals from: Tran Van Nguyen (F40 javelin throw), Kieu Minh Trung (F55 discus throw), Ngo Thi Lan Thanh (F55 javelin throw), Nguyen Thi Kieu (F57 shot put), Do Ngoc Thang (F11 shot put), and Pham Xuan Huy (T46 long jump).

In fencing, Truong Thi Van Anh (disability category B) also won a silver medal in foil fencing, and Nguyen Thi Le Quyen (disability category B) won a bronze medal in foil fencing.
