On the morning of June 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held a press conference to announce the results of the high-level talks between the two Prime Ministers.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Australian Prime Minister's visit is of great significance, creating new momentum for the strategic partnership, developing it to new heights between the two countries in the coming time.
The two sides reviewed all areas of cooperation and were pleased to see that the bilateral relationship is developing well and effectively. Economy and trade have become a bright spot with two-way trade turnover in 2022 reaching nearly 16 billion USD, an increase of nearly 30% compared to 2021.
Security and defense cooperation is increasingly effective and substantive, especially in the fields of UN peacekeeping, combating transnational crime, cybercrime, etc.
Cooperation in education - training, agriculture, tourism, culture, labor, science and technology, innovation... has achieved many positive results with many very effective cooperation programs and projects.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the two countries are actively discussing to soon sign an agreement on Peacekeeping Partnership and closely cooperate in preventing transnational crimes, cyber crimes and other crimes.
The two countries are striving to soon increase two-way trade turnover to 20 billion USD in the coming time and double the current two-way investment level. The Prime Minister suggested that Australia continue to facilitate Vietnamese agricultural products to enter Australia to balance trade.
Vietnam encourages major Australian universities to develop operations in Vietnam to support and cooperate in training high-quality human resources, which is one of Vietnam's three strategic breakthroughs.
Australia will support Vietnam in its energy transition to help Vietnam achieve its commitment to net zero emissions by 2050. The two sides will soon sign a cooperation agreement in the field of digital transformation and digital economy, digital society and other digital technologies for economic development.
The Prime Minister thanked Australia for identifying "Vietnam as a central role in Australia's development strategy with ASEAN".
"Vietnam is ready to join Australia in a new phase of cooperation, together bringing the strategic partnership to a new, more practical and effective level," Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed.
Vietnam - Australia will become each other's leading partners and friends
Speaking to the press, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese shared: "Australia is very proud to be one of the first countries to establish relations with Vietnam after the Paris Agreement was signed. Since then, the relationship between the two countries has grown extremely strongly, in economics, education, agriculture, security - defense and trade...".
After 50 years, the Australian Prime Minister assessed that Vietnam has become a major manufacturing country, one of the countries with leading manufacturing capacity in the world. Australia has also supported Vietnam a lot in that journey, from providing clean water to infrastructure, "helping Vietnam open up to the world.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese mentioned two major bridges in the Mekong Delta, My Thuan 1 Bridge and Cao Lanh Bridge - symbols of friendship between the two countries.
"I am very proud to announce that Australia will continue to support Vietnam's energy transition, with a support package of 105 million AUD for sustainable infrastructure planning, clean energy development, and support for Vietnam's mining industry," Mr. Anthony Albanese informed the press about cooperation in addressing security challenges and climate change between the two countries.
Australian agencies will also cooperate with Vietnam in applied agricultural research and related fields.
The Australian Prime Minister said that education is a very important area of cooperation between the two countries and has good potential, as well as improving people-to-people exchanges. He expressed his delight at yesterday's opening of the RMIT University Industrial and Innovation Center in Hanoi.
"It would be difficult to imagine Australia today without the community of more than 300,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working here," Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stressed. He also welcomed two Vietnamese airlines to open direct flights to Australia.
According to the Australian Prime Minister, these cooperative contents will play an important role in upgrading relations to a new level, helping the two countries become each other's leading partners and friends.
Vietnam and Australia both want to maintain peace and continue to promote what has been achieved over the past 50 years, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese affirmed, and will continue to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam at ASEAN and multilateral forums.
