At the 2025 year-end review and 2026 planning meeting of the Polish Agency for Inspection of Quality of Agricultural and Food Products (IJHARS), held from December 1-3, 2025 in Lodz, Ms. Dorota Bochenska, Head of Inspection, stated that in 2025, IJHARS conducted numerous quality inspections of agricultural and food products imported from non-EU countries into Poland. Many shipments violating Polish regulations were ordered to be destroyed or re-exported. Common violations found in agricultural and food products from third countries entering Poland included: (i) mislabeling such as missing information in Polish, incomplete or missing ingredient lists, and inaccurate indications of the minimum shelf life; (ii) mold contamination; and (iii) the presence of prohibited additives.
Each year, the IJHARS agency conducts approximately 80,000 border inspections and is proposing a provision allowing IJHARS to inspect the quality of small shipments, even those under 100kg. IJHARS recommends that sellers, importers, and consumers: Food brought to the Polish market and originating from outside the European Union must meet all quality requirements, including composition, and be marked according to the requirements stipulated in law in force in Poland and the European Union.
According to information published by IJHARS, in 2025, the agency seized and inspected a total of 8 shipments originating from Vietnam, including pepper, dried mango, cinnamon, coconut milk, spice cubes, etc., due to failure to meet hygiene, quality, and labeling standards. In January 2026 alone, IJHARS in Gdansk inspected and issued a decision banning the import of 52,716 cans of pineapple-flavored coconut water from Vietnam into Poland due to the presence of prohibited additives and numerous labeling errors. The decision took effect immediately.
The Vietnam Trade Office in Poland would like to remind businesses exporting agricultural products and food to Poland to tighten quality control to avoid losses due to returned or destroyed goods, and to protect the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products, which have established a certain position in the Polish market.
