According to the Provincial Consumer Protection Association, Bac Ninh currently has about 2 million people participating in online shopping. This result is due to the fact that Vietnam in general and Bac Ninh in particular have a young population, a high rate of Internet users (about 75%) and a rapid economic growth rate. In order for e-commerce to develop further, since 2013, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has directed the Industry and Trade sectors of the provinces to organize "National E-commerce Week and Vietnam Online Shopping Day - Online Friday" (this year, the Week takes place from November 13 to November 17). The goal is to promote the consumption of products and services in the digital environment. Including bringing products to the digital environment; equipping people and young entrepreneurs with digital skills, providing utilities for transactions in the digital environment..., supporting the development of e-commerce, promoting the digital economy, and digital transformation.
Responding to the National E-commerce Week and Vietnam Online Shopping Day - Online Friday this year, the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Ninh organized communication and promotion by mobile cars in communes and wards; on electronic information pages. Coordinated with the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy to support and facilitate businesses and traders to carry out administrative procedures and carry out promotional activities in the locality. At the same time, support the introduction of products and services in the digital environment through the "Opening Ceremony - Kick off Vietnam Online Shopping Day 2025" and display, promote and sell products at booths at the "Experiential space, exhibition of genuine products and digital transformation solutions of Vietnamese enterprises in Hanoi city". Coordinated with the State Bank of Vietnam, Region XII, support businesses and people to make non-cash payment transactions to support people to transact effectively in the digital environment.
| In Vietnam, e-commerce recorded a growth rate of more than 25%/year, with a scale of 20.5 billion USD in 2023, accounting for approximately 8% of total retail sales of goods. The scale of Vietnam's e-commerce market will reach 63 billion USD by 2030. Currently, Bac Ninh has about 2 million people participating in online shopping. |
Mr. Nguyen Van Xuat, Interim Chairman of the Consumer Rights Protection Association of Bac Ninh province, shared that through the National E-commerce Week and Vietnam Online Shopping Day - Online Friday, people and businesses will better understand the importance of e-commerce in the current trend of trade development. At the same time, it is an opportunity for authorities at all levels and functional sectors to organize peak campaigns to propagate risk prevention, ensure safety for consumers, businesses, and cooperatives when shopping online, and promote e-commerce to develop in the right direction and effectively.
E-commerce brings many benefits but also has many potential risks for buyers. Specifically: Risk of information disclosure; commercial fraud; risks from products and services (social networks, e-commerce platforms cannot control all products, even the production process, leading to the sale of fake and poor quality goods)...
In order for e-commerce to develop healthily and help consumers avoid being scammed, according to the Economic Police Department, Provincial Police, state management agencies need to further improve the professional qualifications and skills of the task force. Invest in modern technical equipment to meet the requirements of work in the new situation. Tighten state management, improve system capacity for e-commerce platforms and social networking platforms to limit the conditions that give rise to crime in the current situation. Promote the role of the national population database system, and issue specific regulations so that e-commerce platforms can verify information provided by customers to ensure the legitimacy of electronic stores. Improve the quality of coordination in providing information and documents of social networking platforms and telecommunications service providers to meet verification and investigation requirements. Propaganda and raise consumer awareness of legal regulations and consequences caused by illegal activities in the field of e-commerce.
For consumers, it is necessary to raise awareness of protecting personal information; choose reputable shopping platforms; carefully check goods before receiving and paying; complain when problems arise (report fraud cases to authorities or e-commerce platforms, equip yourself with knowledge and skills to avoid risks).
