EVNHANOI's 'oil doctor' silently protects the capital's power grid

Amidst noisy power stations and oil-smelling laboratories, EVNHANOI engineers still work quietly, protecting the safety of Hanoi's power grid.

If the transformer is the heart of the capital's power grid, then the machine oil is the "blood" that helps that heart operate smoothly. And the machine oil testing engineers of Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI) are the silent "testing doctors", protecting the power system of Hanoi city day and night.

Oil testing is one of the important steps to ensure the safe operation of the entire electrical system. Each oil sample taken from the transformer is a report on the condition of the equipment. Even the smallest abnormal index can be a warning sign of an impending problem.

“We have to work with absolute precision. Oil contaminated with moisture or impurities can cause the insulation to deteriorate, affecting the parts and components inside the transformer. Therefore, when analyzing oil, all operations are carried out according to strict procedures. From sampling to processing and recording results,” shared Mr. Pham Gia Phu - Head of the Petrochemical Team - Electrical Testing Company - Hanoi Electricity.

Mr. Phu has been involved in petrochemical testing for more than 25 years. He shared that this job requires more patience and diligence than many people think: " Sometimes when we are at home, we receive an urgent order to handle the situation. At 11 pm, the whole team still has to go to the station because the work cannot wait. If we cannot handle it in time, thousands of households will be affected."

In the laboratory of the Hanoi Electricity Testing Company, the characteristic smell of machine oil spreads throughout the space along with the sound of measuring machines operating continuously. Engineers take turns checking the breakdown voltage, dielectric loss, acid value, moisture content, analyzing the dissolved gas content in the oil,... all items are performed according to the correct procedure, parameters are recorded carefully and accurately.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nguyen - Member of the Petrochemical Team shared: “ At first, I found it difficult to get used to it because the working environment was always filled with the smell of oil and chemicals, and I had to work the night shift. But then I gradually got used to it. The feeling of completing an accurate test, detecting risks early and helping the equipment avoid problems is the greatest reward.”

During the testing process, each index in the oil analysis report is monitored periodically. If any abnormalities are detected, the engineering team will immediately check, isolate the cause and propose solutions. From the signs of abnormal increase in the indexes and comparison with previous tests, they can predict that there are abnormal signs in the transformer. From there, they can make reasonable diagnoses and recommendations to prevent incidents from occurring and ensure the safety of the transformer.

It is these silent people who are contributing to keeping the capital's power grid running stably every day. Their work, although difficult, is also very proud. Because behind each safe operating device is effort and silent dedication. They do not say much, just quietly continue their shift, continue to monitor each oil index, each small fluctuation on the gauge.

With precision and responsibility, the oil doctors are silently protecting the safety of each transformer station as well as the power system of the capital. Their work not only preserves the power source but also demonstrates the professionalism and pride of the capital's electricians.
