On January 19th, doctors in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit of Da Nang Hospital successfully treated a foreign patient in critical condition.
The patient, Mr. KJH (24 years old, South Korean nationality), was admitted to the hospital in a state of respiratory failure, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, and severely low blood pressure. After examination and testing, doctors determined that the patient had myocarditis due to infection.

Following a multidisciplinary consultation, the hospital decided to prescribe ECMO to support the heart and lungs, maintain blood circulation and oxygenation, and facilitate myocardial recovery.
The ECMO placement process was challenging due to the patient's obesity, requiring advanced techniques and close coordination among the intensive care, anesthesiology, and surgical teams.
After more than 6 days of treatment with ECMO combined with mechanical ventilation, antibiotics, and continuous hemodialysis, the patient's cardiopulmonary function improved significantly, and ECMO was successfully discontinued. The patient is now alert, breathing well independently, and is eligible for discharge.
