In Khanh Hoa province, Master - Doctor Nguyen Phuc Huy, Department of Orthopedics, Cho Ray Hospital and his colleagues had unforgettable moments.

According to Dr. Nguyen Phuc Huy, the working group of Cho Ray Hospital in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union set out to support people in Khanh Hoa province in the early morning of November 24.

Doctors are responsible for taking care of the health of about 150 young volunteers from Ho Chi Minh City who are on duty in isolated areas, providing first aid and medical support to people.

Although closely following the flood situation, the tragic image of the land after the natural disaster was beyond the imagination of young doctors.

“We witnessed the chaotic scene from villages to schools. Classrooms, desks, chairs, books, electronic equipment, and computers were all covered in mud and severely damaged. Teachers and the team worked together to clean up with a feeling of great sadness, not knowing when students would be able to return to normal schooling,” Dr. Nguyen Phuc Huy shared.

What touched Dr. Huy was the dedication of the teachers at Dien Dien Primary School (Dien Dien Commune, Khanh Hoa). There was a case of a teacher who had an accident and broke his leg and had a cast on. However, when the flood came, the teacher stayed on the roof for 2 days, the cast was soaked in dirty water so he removed it himself.

After examination, it was noted that there were no serious complications, so Dr. Huy bandaged the teacher with a cloth splint, prescribed painkillers, and advised him to limit movement to allow the bone to heal.

However, the next day, Dr. Huy met the teacher again, limping to arrange seats for the students of Dien Dien Primary School, waiting for the relief team to arrive. The teacher just smiled and explained simply: I took the doctor's medicine so my pain is better!

“The teachers’ houses are also in disarray due to the storm and flood, but they put aside their family matters to take care of their students. Many were injured in the flood and had not had time to get tetanus shots. No one thought about themselves but prioritized the work of the school, which we really respect,” Dr. Nguyen Phuc Huy shared.

According to Dr. Pham Thanh Viet, Deputy Director in charge of operations at Cho Ray Hospital, this is not only a professional task but also a responsibility of a physician to the community. "Wherever people need it, Cho Ray Hospital will be there," Dr. Pham Thanh Viet shared.

In Hoa Xuan commune ( Dak Lak ), the first working group of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, consisting of 20 doctors, nurses and medical staff, examined nearly 700 people. Among them, many elderly people and people with underlying diseases were examined by doctors and given timely medicine.

Noticing that many people waded through the water to come for medical examinations with their clothes still soaked, the medical team voluntarily contributed 45 million VND to buy 200 portions of rice to give to the extremely poor households. At the same time, they invited the people to stay for lunch after the medical examinations.

In addition, the working group also performed minor surgeries for people with infected wounds due to being soaked in dirty water during the flood.

Not only do they give away medicines, the doctors also hand deliver important items such as sanitary napkins and cleaning solutions to the women. These delicate items play an important role in taking care of women’s health, especially in the context of water shortages and pollution after the flood.
