The story of two potholes
Pointing to the newly paved, smooth road right in front of his house, Mr. Pham Van Khoa from Tho Truong village recounted: "Right here. For about ten years, there were two potholes right in front of my door. When it rained, it flooded, and when it was sunny, it was dusty. Many times, when we had guests, we were too embarrassed to open the door wide."
He said that for all those years, that stretch of road had been a nightmare for the whole family. When it rained, the road surface became muddy, and water pooled in deep potholes. When the sun came out, each passing vehicle would kick up clouds of dust, covering the yard, tables, chairs, and even the dinner table. The commune had brought in stones to level the road many times, but it only lasted a few days. After a few more rainstorms, the road surface would sink again, the stones would wash away, and everything would be back to square one.

What made him happiest was that, after much anticipation, the project to renovate and upgrade the road from Tho Truong village to Tho Xuyen village (the section from Provincial Road 392B to Tho Xuyen village) has finally taken shape. The road, approximately 1.3 km long with a 5.5 m wide asphalt surface and a total investment of over 11.311 billion VND, has been completed and accepted, one month ahead of schedule, and is awaiting handover for use.
"Having a new road makes me as happy as if my own gate had just been renovated. From now on, I can leave the door open all day without worrying about dust," Khoa said with a cheerful smile, the hearty grin of a villager after years of waiting for a clean road in front of his house.

The joy spread throughout Tho Truong village, not just to him. As soon as the road was completed, Mr. Nguyen Van Huan and many other villagers, without being asked, bought new light bulbs to illuminate the road. "It would be a waste to leave the road dark after it's already beautiful. Everyone contributed a little to install the lights, so the village looks brighter at night," Mr. Huan proudly shared.
The story in Tho Truong clearly illustrates the transformation taking place in Bac Thanh Mien. Since its establishment, the commune has implemented numerous projects to improve and upgrade local transportation infrastructure, gradually completing the network connecting villages and hamlets.
Expanding opportunities for development

In Bac Thanh Mien, the changes are not limited to Tho Truong village alone. From Lien Dong, An Lau, Huu Chung to Lam Son, each road is gradually taking on a new look. The main road in Lien Dong village, connecting from Provincial Road 393 to residential cluster No. 4, has now been completed after an investment of over 7.392 billion VND, opening up a wide and smooth traffic artery between the residential area and the provincial road.
The An Lau - Huu Chung route has also been upgraded with a total cost of over 6.905 billion VND, making travel and trade between residential areas much more convenient than before.
Not stopping at completed projects, Bac Thanh Mien is continuing to improve its transportation network with new projects. The Lien Dong - Bich Thuy - Huu Chung route, from the Xa market gate area to Huu Chung village, is being implemented with sections of the road being widened to 7 meters.
The route from Tho Truong village to Lam Son, with a length of over 1.6 km and a total investment of 15 billion VND, is expected to further expand connecting routes, creating new momentum for many residential areas in the commune.

In addition to focusing on inter-village roads, Bac Thanh Mien also allocates resources to improve the internal field transportation system - small roads that play a crucial role in agricultural production.
From the 133.5-meter-long concrete road in Dai Dong village, with a total investment of nearly 250 million VND; the 705-meter-long road from An Lau village to An Son village, costing over 1.41 billion VND; to the roads in Lam Son, Chi Trung, etc., each concrete-paved rural road is making it easier for machinery to access the fields, reducing hardship for farmers, and promoting production towards modernization.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Thanh Mien commune, Khong Quoc Toan, affirmed that the synchronized investment in transportation routes not only serves immediate travel needs but also creates a long-term foundation for socio -economic development. When roads are widened and connections are more convenient, trade, production, and access to services improve, thereby gradually raising the quality of life for the people.
With new roads extending through every hamlet, Bac Thanh Mien today is not only changing in terms of transportation infrastructure but also transforming in its way of life and in how its people perceive their homeland. Each widened road, each cleaner alleyway, not simply serves transportation but is also contributing to the development momentum, making this rural area more prosperous, open, and stable on its journey ahead.
