In June, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed a Decision to promulgate 11 strategic technology groups. Of which, digital twins and other categories such as AI, robots, big data, etc. were identified as the key platforms to promote comprehensive digital transformation, supporting sustainable development in key areas.

On December 6, the organizing committee of Thu Duc Digital Technology Festival launched the 3D digital map of Thu Duc Ward. The technology recreates the entire space of Thu Duc Ward, including public works, traffic infrastructure, living places and historical relics.

The system provides three-dimensional visual data, ensuring full necessary information such as government data, economic - cultural - social, especially on planning. Thereby, people, businesses and management agencies can more conveniently observe, access and exploit urban data.

3D digital maps allow people to look up planning information, locate public works, infrastructure and construction status more conveniently. By visualizing data in three-dimensional space, users have a clear view of the current urban picture, minimizing the risk of misunderstanding or missing details when only viewing traditional drawings or documents.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, highly appreciated the digital transformation efforts of Thu Duc Ward through this product. He explained that in order to build a 3D map, it is necessary to rely on the BIM (Building Information Modeling) model.

“The process requires developers to redraw each house and road accurately,” said Mr. Hoa. The expert also shared that the technology used to make digital copies such as the 3D digital map of Thu Duc Ward is even more advanced, because Digital Twin is also a dynamic digital ecosystem, self-collecting data to learn and develop.

At the event, Mr. Huynh Thanh Nhan, Member of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City, shared about the strategic nature of the Thu Duc Digital Technology Festival. "The event is not simply a technology playground, but also an important bridge aiming to put people at the center of the digital transformation process," he said.

Many cities around the world have applied 3D maps and digital twin models to planning and management. In Seoul (South Korea), the S-Map platform recreates the entire city in 3D space, helping people and authorities evaluate planning factors such as visibility, building shade or traffic density.

Notably, the Virtual Singapore project, launched in 2014, is considered the world’s first national-scale Digital Twin. By combining satellite data, lidar scanning, IoT sensors, and traffic and environmental information, the platform is capable of simulating natural disasters, optimizing lighting systems, planning energy, analyzing urban heat islands, and even testing autonomous vehicles in a virtual environment.

According to forecasts by ABI Research and Reuters , by 2025, more than 500 cities in the world will deploy the digital twin model, and the scale can reach 125.7 billion USD by 2030. This technology helps people clearly feel the change, such as improved quality of life, many new values are created and production and business efficiency is improved.

In the future, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Trinh, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thu Duc Ward, shared plans for a shortened version of the 3D digital map right on the phone. Along with the Zalo mini application, the 3D digital map is the core solution to help improve the efficiency of urban management and serve the people.
