Handing over Hue Medical College to Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy

The handover conference of Hue Medical College to Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy took place this afternoon, marking the development opportunity of a high-quality medical center in the Central region and the whole country.

On the afternoon of December 1, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Hue City People's Committee held a conference to hand over Hue Medical College under Hue City People's Committee to merge into Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The merger of two medical training institutions in Hue City has opened up development opportunities for high-quality medical centers in the Central region and the whole country.

At the conference, the parties signed the handover minutes, officially completing the merger of Hue Medical College into Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University according to Decision No. 2346/QD-TTg dated October 23, 2025 of the Prime Minister .

Specifically, the parties concerned agreed to hand over all facilities, organizational structure, finance, assets, officials - employees, students, legal documents and professional activities of Hue Medical College to Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The handover is carried out according to the principle of ensuring normal operation, avoiding loss and waste, while ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of officials - employees and students.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, emphasized the importance of the arrangement and merger. Mr. Binh said that this will be an opportunity for the two units to promote their advantages in human resources and facilities, opening a new phase to improve the quality of training local medical human resources.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, Rector of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that with a history of nearly 70 years of construction and development, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy is one of the leading centers for training, scientific research, and medical examination and treatment in the country. Established in 1957, through many historical periods, the school has continuously grown, affirming its position as a core unit in the Vietnamese higher education system, a place where knowledge, compassion and innovation converge. The school has trained nearly 35,000 doctors, pharmacists, university graduates and more than 13,500 postgraduate medical staff for the Central Highlands region, the whole country and Laos.

Hue Medical College, with a long history of formation and development over 77 years, is one of the prestigious training cradles for intermediate and college level medical staff in the Central region.

"The merger of Hue Medical College under the People's Committee of Hue City into the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University under the Ministry of Education and Training is a historic event, marking a strong transformation of the two schools, in line with the major policy of the Party and State on innovation, streamlining, and improving the efficiency of the university education system, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development and international integration," said Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy.
