The unusual goal occurred during the quarter-final promotion play-off match for the Moldovan Championship between Real Sireti and Oguzsport on May 17th. The match was dominated by the home team, Real Sireti, who led 4-1 after the first 45 minutes.
In the 75th minute, Oguzsport launched an attack and striker Nikita Cedirean unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. The ball went wide of the goal but accidentally struck the back of defender Valentin Rebeja (Real Sireti), who was lying injured near the goal line. The ball bounced in a beautiful arc before flying over the goalkeeper and into the net, giving Oguzsport a goal to reduce the deficit to 2-4.
This incredibly bizarre goal immediately went viral on social media, with many fans sharing it and it being featured in major European newspapers. Logos Press headlined: "The funniest own goal in history scored in the Moldovan Football League."
