LAO CAI - The frost phenomenon appeared for the second time this year on Fansipan peak but few tourists had the chance to admire it.

According to the management board of Fansipan Legend tourist area, on the night of December 24, the temperature on the top of Fansipan dropped to 0 degrees Celsius, causing frost to form a thin layer of ice. This is the second time the frost phenomenon has appeared on the top of Fansipan, after the first time on November 20.

However, tourists usually only witness this phenomenon through images on social media because the ice only lasts from midnight to about 7 a.m. During this time, the tourist area is not open yet, so only on-site staff can take pictures.

Frost usually forms when the air temperature is below 4 degrees Celsius, the surface of objects or plants on the ground is approximately 0 degrees Celsius. Water vapor will condense into a solid, porous, white, salt-like substance, so it is called frost.

Besides ice, Fansipan peak also attracts attention every year when it snows. According to the management board, in recent years, there has been snow almost every year. The most special year is 2021 when snow covered the entire Fansipan peak area. In 2022, this phenomenon also appeared several times.

Fansipan peak often gets cold from November to February, the temperature during this time can drop below 0 degrees Celsius. Every year, when ice and snow appear, a large number of tourists often flock to Sa Pa to admire it.
