The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship has concluded its first round of matches. In Group A, host Indonesia demonstrated its absolute strength by "destroying" Brunei 8-0 to temporarily take the lead in the group with 3 points (+8 goal difference).

The surprise 2-0 win over Malaysia helped the Philippines finish second in the group with a worse goal difference (+2 compared to +8). Malaysia is at a disadvantage in third place and Brunei is at the bottom of the group.

The situation in Group B has not changed much as U23 Laos and U23 Cambodia "shared points" in the opening match. Meanwhile, U23 Vietnam is absent from the first round. The goal of coach Kim Sang Sik's team is certainly to be at the top after the group stage ends.

U23 Timor-Leste just created a shock when they held U23 Myanmar to a 4-4 draw on the opening day. This result helped them share the lead with their opponents after the first round of matches. However, U23 Thailand is still considered to be completely superior and will likely win the top spot in the group.

The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to 29 in Indonesia, with the participation of 10 teams, divided into 3 groups. The teams will compete in a round robin to calculate points, selecting the 3 group winners and 1 second-place team with the best results to enter the semi-finals.
