Southeast Asia has seen a surge in British tourists returning this year after the pandemic. The region is home to a diverse range of destinations. While places like Bangkok and Singapore have attracted large numbers of British tourists for decades, other places have become increasingly popular with British visitors in recent years.

Southeast Asia is home to diverse cultures, preserved traditions, and some of the most stunning temples, palaces, and natural wonders on the planet.

From Angkor Wat to Ha Long Bay, Southeast Asia boasts some of the continent's most famous attractions along with sprawling cities, hundreds of beaches and a pleasant tropical climate.

Vietnam has many beautiful, pristine beaches.

The Independent has selected the best countries in the region to make it easier for British travellers to plan their next getaway.

Vietnam is one of the most "desired" destinations in the region for international tourists; possessing many places of different natural beauty... Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang are the most attractive destinations for those who want to experience the cities of the S-shaped country, while Hoi An is known as the "Venice of Vietnam" due to its canals and rivers flowing into the sea. The well-preserved old town includes shops in old wooden houses and French-style buildings.

Ha Long Bay is the country’s most famous natural beauty, while the beaches of Phu Quoc and Cu Lao Cham are equally beautiful. Other natural attractions include Phong Nha Cave, Son Doong Cave, the Marble Mountains and the sand dunes of Mui Ne.

The British newspaper said that the best time to visit Vietnam is in April and September, right before and after the peak tourist season in Vietnam, when the weather is also less humid and the temperature is lower than the peak of summer.

International visitors to Vietnam in May 2023 are estimated at 916,257, down 6.9% compared to the previous month but up 573.7% compared to the same period in 2022. In the first 5 months of 2023, the total number of visitors is estimated at 4.6 million, up 1,914.4% over the same period. In the European market, British tourists to Vietnam are the most numerous with 114,000 in the past 5 months.
