According to The Athletic , the decision was made after a meeting between Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Omar Berrada, and Jason Wilcox this week. Despite considering several big-name candidates such as Luis Enrique, Andoni Iraola, Unai Emery, and Mauricio Pochettino, the Red Devils' leadership ultimately chose Carrick as the most suitable option for the team's rebuilding process.
The former England midfielder took over the manager's job after Ruben Amorim was sacked earlier this year. Since then, Carrick has quickly made his mark with a series of positive results, helping MU to revive strongly in the race for the top spots and secure a return to the Champions League.
Under Carrick, the Old Trafford team not only improved their results but also showed a more energetic style. MU defeated both Arsenal and Man City in the early stages of his tenure before maintaining consistent form for the remainder of the season.
The Athletic reports that Carrick is expected to sign a two-year contract with an option to extend for another season. This is seen as a similar contract structure to what Amorim received when he joined Manchester United at the end of 2024.
