The Malaysian press also acknowledged this difference. Makan Bola headlined: “Vietnam women’s team is too strong, Malaysia suffers defeat”. However, the reality on the field showed that the Vietnamese women's team was too strong for Malaysia. After 90 minutes, Hai Yen and her teammates scored 7 goals against Malaysia. This result caused Malayan Tigress (the nickname of the Malaysian women's team) to fall to the bottom of the table.
Sinarharian newspaper wrote: “Malaysian women’s team had a bad start at SEA Games 33”. The newspaper wrote: “The Malaysian women’s team started their SEA Games campaign with a 0-7 defeat to the Vietnamese women’s team. Hai Yen scored in the 4th minute, almost destroying Malaysia’s hopes of creating a surprise.
