The Con Son scenic area within the Con Son - Kiet Bac historical site (Hai Phong) is closely associated with the lives of many historical figures, most notably the temple dedicated to the national hero and world cultural figure Nguyen Trai. The temple is located at the foot of Ngu Nhac and Ky Lan mountains, with its back against To Son mountain, forming the "left green dragon, right white tiger" configuration. Photo: Thanh Dat/TTXVN

Hai Phong is one of the three localities that jointly own this complex of historical sites and scenic spots. To preserve and promote the value of the heritage, the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to implement many solutions in the coming time.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong, said that the Department continues to advise the City People's Committee to closely coordinate with Quang Ninh and Bac Ninh provinces, and actively consult with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on heritage management. In addition, Hai Phong is leveraging the assistance and support of UNESCO in the conservation and promotion of heritage values in compliance with the 1972 Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and other relevant international treaties to which Vietnam is a party. For the upcoming Con Son - Kiet Bac Autumn Festival in October, the Department will advise the City People's Committee to elevate the festival's organization, upgrade and innovate the overall decoration of the historical site, improve the environmental landscape, and ensure that the festival space is expanded, has focal points, and creates a strong impression on visitors from all over the world. Strengthen communication and diversify the methods and content of propaganda and promotion about historical sites and festivals to match the title that UNESCO has bestowed upon them.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai stated that in Vietnam, from ancient times to the present day, religious and spiritual sites, places of worship, and memorials to gods, saints, and national heroes who have contributed to the country and homeland, have always been important forces in preservation, conservation, and promotion of values, alongside the State and local authorities at all levels. This is especially true for the relics and clusters of relics that are components of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac World Heritage Site. The local community is the source that nurtures the beautiful traditional values passed down from ancient times, entirely on a voluntary basis. When the State and local authorities at all levels regulate these values, coupled with the participation of the local community, it creates a synergy that makes the preservation and promotion of heritage values more effective.

To further promote the role of the community in preserving and enhancing the value of world heritage sites, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will closely coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, and localities to strengthen propaganda and promotion efforts to raise awareness among officials, Party members, and the general public, while encouraging everyone to participate in the management and protection of relics, as well as the management and organization of festivals. Relevant units will continue to encourage the younger generation to participate in activities involving the interpretation and preservation of relics, gradually passing on this knowledge to future generations, and safeguarding and promoting the value of these sites for generations to come.

According to Mr. Le Duy Manh, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Con Son - Kiet Bac Special National Relic Site, the unit has carried out many activities to promote and introduce the relic site, including the development of characteristic experiential tourism tours such as: Heritage Journey Tour; Conquering the Chessboard of the Immortals Tour; Exploring the Mysteries of Ngu Nhac Linh Tu Tour; and Kiet Bac Lotus Experience Tour in 2025.

Mr. Tran Van Tam, a tourist from Bac Ninh, said that he visits the Con Son - Kiet Bac National Special Historical Site every year. This site is where Emperor Tran Nhan Tong built the Ky Lan monastery in Con Son around the 13th-14th centuries, and where General Tran Quoc Tuan built the Northeast military defense line in Van Kiet to protect Thang Long citadel. The site is also closely associated with the lives and careers of many national cultural figures. It is a place where spirituality and life intertwine, a wonderful place to introduce the country's history to future generations, especially after the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites and scenic spots was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
