The numbers speak for themselves.
The Lunar New Year holiday is also a time when smugglers take advantage of the situation to flood the market with substandard goods. To maintain market stability, market management forces have proactively developed plans and launched a high-intensity campaign against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods throughout the area.
On January 25th, Market Management Team No. 4, in coordination with Road Traffic Police Team No. 4 of the Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police, stopped and inspected a truck with license plate 29H-130.xx driven by Mr. KDT, residing in Trach My Loc village, Phuc Tho commune, Hanoi city. The inspection revealed 2,000 liters of unlabeled, unregistered white liquor in the truck's cargo area, en route to be sold.
Immediately afterwards, the authorities issued a decision to fine the company 25 million VND and ordered the destruction of all the goods. With such a large quantity of alcohol lacking origin information, production unit details, and safety certifications, if not stopped in time, the consequences for consumer health would be unpredictable.

From December 18, 2025 to March 14, 2026, the unit conducted 225 inspections/cases; detected and handled 220 violations; with a total value of over 4.8 billion VND. The seized goods included: 2,417 kg of firecrackers; 4,000 liters of various types of alcohol; 164 cases of canned beer of foreign origin; 1,500 boxes of various types of confectionery; 430 kg of various types of instant food; 1,200 packs of smuggled cigarettes; 900 kg of dried red apples; 6,000 clothing items of various types manufactured in China; 416 LED panel lights of unknown origin; and 1,780 counterfeit fashion items bearing trademarks protected in Vietnam...
Following the peak period, in April, market management forces conducted 61 inspections and handled 60 cases involving 70 administrative violations. The total amount collected for the state budget reached over 702 million VND. The total value of violations processed exceeded 1.1 billion VND.
Recently, Market Management Team No. 1, in coordination with the Yen Bai Ward Police, inspected the V.D.Q business establishment in the area. During the inspection, authorities discovered the business was displaying and storing 12 used iPhones that were smuggled in. Market Management Team No. 1 completed the necessary paperwork and submitted a report to the Sub-Department for submission to the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade to issue an administrative penalty decision against the V.D.Q business establishment for 70 million VND, and ordered the destruction of all confiscated items in accordance with regulations.

The main violations include: trading in prohibited goods, smuggled goods; goods infringing intellectual property rights, goods of unknown origin, violations of food safety regulations; violations of measurement standards; violations of e-commerce regulations, and other violations. These efforts not only contributed to stabilizing market prices but also ensured that the supply and demand of essential goods were not disrupted. Therefore, overall, the goods market remained stable, without unusual price fluctuations, and fully complied with food safety and hygiene regulations.
Take decisive action.
The decisive action taken against violations demonstrates the resolute stance of the regulatory authorities. This aims not only to eradicate substandard products that pose a risk to public health from the market but also to deter violators. While significant progress has been made, the fight against smuggling and trade fraud is facing new challenges. Notably, perpetrators are now taking full advantage of e-commerce and social media platforms to carry out their activities.

Therefore, in the coming period, the Provincial Market Management Department will strengthen market inspection and control, focusing on essential goods such as: food, gasoline, agricultural supplies, fertilizers, pesticides... and goods with high tax rates, goods subject to import and export conditions, and goods on the list of prohibited imports and exports such as: minerals, gold, foreign currency, tobacco... and strictly handle violations in accordance with the law.
Mr. Tran Van Chien, Deputy Head of the Provincial Market Management Department, said: “The Department will closely monitor market developments to proactively develop inspection and control programs and plans, aiming to promptly detect and prevent potential violations; especially in the field of e-commerce.”
"The unit will direct local teams to coordinate with functional forces to conduct thematic inspections; conduct reconnaissance in areas where violations frequently occur; and at the same time, strengthen the dissemination of information on how to identify genuine and counterfeit goods to the people," Mr. Chien emphasized.
The fight against trade fraud is a long journey, requiring seamless coordination between law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and community support. The results achieved in the first months of 2026 will contribute to creating a transparent market and protecting the "lifeblood" of the economy.
