Liverpool's Colombian striker is highly rated by sporting director Deco and coach Hansi Flick, while Diaz himself has expressed his desire to join Camp Nou because he feels underpaid and has only two years left on his contract. However, the deal is becoming increasingly complicated and beyond Barca's control.
Liverpool do not want to sell their star, especially after the sudden departure of Diogo Jota, which left them without a key striker. Although Bayern Munich put more than 67 million euros on the table, the "Red Brigade" still refused. Barca, who have not met La Liga's 1:1 financial regulations, affirmed that they will not pay more than 60 million euros - the price set at the beginning of the transfer period.
The difficulty is even greater when Liverpool has not found a replacement despite approaching Rodrygo and Isak. Meanwhile, Bayern is willing to raise the price to 75-80 million euros to close the deal, which makes it impossible for Barca to compete.
Despite prioritising the Camp Nou, Diaz will be forced to consider other options if Liverpool receive a higher offer from Bayern. Previously, his agent believed he could force a move away from Anfield for €60m, but after the Jota incident, that plan has all but collapsed.
With a limited budget and not wanting to spend too much on the player who is about to turn 29, Barca are considering cheaper and more feasible alternatives, instead of rushing into a "crazy" race with Bayern and Liverpool.
