Lam Dong Provincial Police arrested a commune official for withdrawing 500 million VND in flood relief money to pay off debts and spend.
On December 6, the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Province Police informed that the police urgently arrested Uc Kim Khoan, an official of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phan Son commune, for the act of property appropriation.
According to initial information, on November 6, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lam Dong province transferred 550 million VND to the Relief Fund account of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phan Son commune to support local people affected by floods and landslides on Dai Ninh pass.
The subject was assigned by the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phan Son commune to coordinate with the accountant to withdraw the money to pay for people affected by damages caused by floods.
However, Khoan arbitrarily withdrew 500 million VND to appropriate. The subject said he used it to pay off debt from investing in virtual currency. Later, when the authorities were preparing to deploy to help the people, they discovered that it was lost.
