Following President Ho Chi Minh's example of a simple lifestyle, many citizens, officials, and young people in Hanoi are spreading the spirit of saving and combating waste through practical actions, contributing to building a civilized and sustainable community.
Mr. Nguyen Dac Hung, Head of the Elderly Association of residential areas 1, 2, and 3 of Duc Dien, Phu Dien Ward:
Let's follow Uncle Ho's example in the smallest things.

I was born and raised in Hanoi. At the age of 18, I went to fight in the South. After the country was reunified, I returned to work at an agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade before retiring. Now, at an advanced age, I still participate in local community work as the head of the Senior Citizens' Association in my neighborhood.
What I have always held dear throughout my life is to follow the example of President Ho Chi Minh 's simple and frugal lifestyle, even in the smallest things. He was the President of the country, yet he still mended his own clothes, grew his own vegetables, and never wasted a single grain of rice. I am an ordinary citizen, a former soldier who later worked as a worker and civil servant, so I have even less reason to live extravagantly.
During the difficult years of the subsidy system, the combined salaries of my wife and I were insufficient to support the entire family. However, we never relied on or depended on others. We utilized the backyard to raise pigs, keep bees for honey, and grow Dien pomelos; we tried our best to do whatever we could to improve our lives.
I didn't teach my children and grandchildren through words, but through my daily life. I turned off the lights when not in use, repaired broken items before throwing them away, and cooked just enough food to avoid waste. Growing up in that environment, my children and grandchildren naturally learned to live neatly, frugally, and to value hard work. I often tell them that living simply is about appreciating the value of labor.
Ms. Hoang Thi Huyen Trang, Chairperson of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Kien Hung Ward:
When each individual changes, it becomes a collective strength of the community.

In Hanoi, a city where cultural values converge and spread, building a civilized and simple way of life is all the more important.
In my opinion, every official, Party member, Youth Union member, and association member must set an example through even the smallest actions. Every family needs to educate their children to value hard work, live with compassion, and avoid pursuing a materialistic lifestyle and wasteful consumption. When each person changes from awareness to action, the spirit of saving will become a shared strength of the community. With its role in gathering and mobilizing the people, the Fatherland Front needs to integrate the practice of saving and combating waste with emulation movements and campaigns in residential areas.
To truly bring this spirit to life, I believe we need to focus on three key areas. First, we need to intensify propaganda through familiar, memorable, and easily implementable methods; highlighting good examples, good deeds, and effective savings models to spread throughout the community. Alongside this, we need to promote the exemplary role of cadres, Party members, leaders, and influential people in residential areas. People will trust and follow when they see the exemplary and genuine contributions of the cadres.
Furthermore, the criteria of saving and combating waste should be included in the evaluation of "Culturally Advanced Families" and "Culturally Advanced Residential Areas"... When saving becomes a standard in daily conduct, it will contribute to the formation of a beautiful lifestyle for the people of Hanoi. The Fatherland Front also needs to coordinate the organization of forums for people to participate in contributing ideas to building a cultural life; at the same time, it should promote the effectiveness of the People's Inspection Committee and the Community Investment Monitoring Committee to promptly detect and report instances of wastefulness in the use of budgets, public assets, or the organization of activities that are merely 형식적인 (formalistic).
In addition, it is necessary to promote the role of grassroots media in spreading examples of simple and responsible living, contributing to building a civilized community.
Ms. Bach Ngoc Tram, Secretary of the Youth Union of Quang Oai commune:
Demonstrating the responsibility of the younger generation towards the future of the country.

From President Ho Chi Minh, I learned the spirit of living humbly, working responsibly, and using time and resources effectively in my studies, work, and daily life.
In my work with the Youth Union in Quang Oai commune, I always strive to organize practical activities, avoiding formality, prioritizing effectiveness and the value that spreads to union members and young people. In my opinion, saving is not about living a life of hardship, but about appreciating hard work and using resources for the right purpose and meaning.
Today's young people need to change their mindset to understand that saving is not just about saving money, but also about saving time, energy, resources, and building a civilized lifestyle, not chasing after ostentation. In the digital age, wastefulness sometimes comes from spending too much time on things that lack value, living more in the "virtual" world than in reality, or consuming according to trends while forgetting real needs.
In my opinion, a positive lifestyle, balancing enjoyment and responsibility, will create more lasting values than fleeting glamour. Saving money today also contributes to building a sustainable society and demonstrates the responsibility of the younger generation towards the future of the country.
If I were asked to propose an initiative to spread the spirit of saving among young people in Hanoi, I would like to implement the "Youth Living Green - Living Responsibly" model with activities such as "Waste-Free Day," time-saving challenges online, or markets for exchanging used items. I believe that when young people change through small daily actions, the spirit of saving will gradually become a beautiful cultural trait of Hanoi's youth today.
