The inspection team from the Department of Agriculture and Environment inspected the operation of the automatic wastewater monitoring station of Lam Son Sugar Company Limited.
In response to practical demands, Thanh Hoa province has invested in installing two fixed, automatic air quality monitoring stations: one located at the headquarters of the Nghi Son Economic Zone Management Board and industrial parks in Thanh Hoa province, in Truc Lam ward; and another located at the headquarters of the People's Procuracy of Region 6, in Bim Son ward. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment (NN&MT), after many years of operation, these monitoring stations are managed and operated effectively and continuously 24 hours a day as required, with reliable data series serving the State's environmental management needs well.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, Deputy Head of the Environment Department, Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: “Data from the monitoring stations is transmitted to the server at the Department of Agriculture and Environment every 5 minutes. Minute-by-minute data is automatically aggregated by specialized software (EnviSoft software provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) to calculate average values at specified time intervals, including: minute average, 1-hour average, 8-hour average, and 24-hour average. The minute-by-minute average serves as the basis for calculating subsequent average values. Data transmission is continuous via the internet; the receiving server system processes, stores, and serves the purpose of aggregating, checking, and exploiting monitoring data as prescribed. Simultaneously, the 1-hour average data is also transmitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for monitoring and management purposes. Through timely monitoring results, we can detect and provide early warnings of environmental pollution risks.” "Inform relevant authorities and local governments, thereby proposing solutions to improve the effectiveness of state management in environmental protection."
In the first quarter of 2026, many parameters related to temperature, pressure, humidity, solar radiation, CO, O3, SO2, etc., were updated and transmitted promptly from the monitoring stations. For example, regarding temperature, at Nghi Son station, automatic measurements show that the average 24-hour temperature in Q1/2026 ranged from 13.47°C to 27.94°C, with an average 24-hour temperature of 20.80°C. The lowest temperature was in January and the highest in March. At Bim Son station, the average 24-hour temperature in Q1/2026 ranged from 12.72°C to 27.9°C, with an average 24-hour temperature of 21.26°C. The average daily temperature tended to increase gradually from January to March. Regarding solar radiation, at Nghi Son station, in Q1/2026, the average 24-hour radiation ranged from 0.00 w/m2 to 414.68 w/m2, with an average of 185.08 w/m2. At Bim Son station, the average 24-hour radiation during the quarter ranged from 16.20 w/m2 to 181.40 w/m2, with an average of 101.54 w/m2...
According to Nguyen Dinh Thang, Deputy Head of the Environmental Department of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the air quality monitoring stations located at the headquarters of the Nghi Son Economic Zone Management Board and industrial parks in Thanh Hoa province (in Truc Lam ward) and at the People's Procuracy of Region 6 (in Bim Son ward) are still operational. However, the equipment has been in operation for a long time, exceeding the manufacturer's recommended lifespan. On-site inspections have revealed some equipment malfunctions related to lights, pressure, and sample suction flow rate; data transmission signals are unstable. The main reason is that the equipment's components and materials have aged and deteriorated after prolonged use, affecting operational stability as well as the accuracy and reliability of monitoring data. In light of this situation, the relevant agency has conducted an assessment and analysis of the causes and proposed solutions to ensure the system operates stably and continuously.
Along with the two monitoring stations mentioned above, the entire province now has 37 units and enterprises that have installed automatic, continuous environmental monitoring systems, totaling 121 monitoring stations, including 38 wastewater monitoring stations and 83 exhaust gas monitoring stations. Some leading enterprises in investing in and installing automatic monitoring systems include Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited; Nghi Son Thermal Power Company Limited; Nghi Son 2 Power Company Limited; VAS Nghi Son Group Joint Stock Company; Bim Son Cement Joint Stock Company; Long Son Company Limited, etc.
Mr. Le Ba Chieu, Deputy General Director of Lam Son Sugar Company, said: "During its operations and business activities, the company has strictly complied with environmental protection regulations. From the very beginning of its operation, the company has invested in building wastewater treatment facilities and implemented environmental protection solutions and measures as required. In particular, in response to new requirements, in 2025, the company invested in installing an automatic, continuous wastewater monitoring system. This system has been inspected and put into operation by the relevant authorities, connecting data to a server located at the Department of Agriculture and Environment to serve the state management of environmental protection."
In the context of environmental pollution and complex climate change, the construction and operation of automated monitoring systems is becoming an urgent requirement. These systems act as intelligent "guard stations," helping people accurately and promptly assess the health of nature. This is also a solution and a new step forward in environmental protection in the digital age. When these "telling numbers" are continuously transmitted, we can take control of the situation, promptly prevent negative impacts, and protect life and ecosystems for a sustainable future.
