Surprise 'alien' heatsink technology on REDMAGIC 11 Pro

While dissecting the latest Android gaming flagship, the YouTuber expressed his amazement at this new generation of cooling technology.

While Apple has just introduced vapor chamber cooling to its new iPhone models and called it a "technological breakthrough", Android flagships have once again surpassed it. Famous YouTuber JerryRigEverything rated this cooling technology on Android smartphones as "from the future".

Nubia's REDMAGIC 11 Pro, which was launched last week, has officially become the world's first commercial smartphone to feature a true liquid cooling system, marking a leap forward in the battle against overheating that smartphone manufacturers still face every day.

Zack Nelson from the popular YouTube channel JerryRigEverything took apart the back of this gaming phone and his reaction couldn't have been clearer. He called it "alien technology" as the entire cooling system was exposed and it looked more like it belonged in a sci-fi movie than a mobile phone.

He even joked that Apple would go crazy when it discovered this technology in 10 years, a not-so-subtle reference to the Cupertino giant's tendency to lag behind Android flagships in terms of technology upgrades but always calling it "technological breakthroughs".

The transparent version of the REDMAGIC 11 Pro allows users to see the actual blue liquid flowing through the cooling system through a circular window on the back. This is not a mere visual effect but the actual AquaCore Cooling system in action, where the coolant is continuously pumped around the circuit to evenly distribute heat across the rear glass.

Interestingly, as the temperature increases, the bubbles in the circulation break into smaller dots, creating a visual demonstration of how the liquid reacts to heat, much like oil or wax does when heated.

According to Nubia, this circuit is filled with non-freezing server-grade fluorine liquid, specially designed to operate in all kinds of extreme conditions from hot to cold. But that's just the part that's visible from the outside.

When Nelson completely removes the rear glass and decals covering it, the entire cooling circuit is revealed in astonishing complexity. He describes the structure as a miniature car engine, with the air ducts and cooling fans acting as the actual radiator.

At the heart of the system is a tiny piezo ceramic pump that vibrates like a loudspeaker to move the fluid through the entire circuit. Combined with an active fan that can spin up to 24,000 times per minute and a giant vapor chamber, the AquaCore Cooling system creates a triple-layer cooling solution that is unprecedented in any smartphone.

The fan was even powerful enough to extinguish the flame of a lighter when Nelson tested it, showing that the airflow it generates is no less than dedicated cooling devices.

What's even more amazing is that all this complex technology is packed into a phone that's just 8.9 millimeters thick, a remarkable engineering feat considering other manufacturers are still struggling with limited internal space.

The AquaCore Cooling system, piezoelectric micropump, active fan, and wireless charging coil are all integrated into a single, removable component, underneath which are cleverly curved fluid-filled tubes to optimize the contact area with the heat source.

Nelson put the REDMAGIC 11 Pro through his famously rigorous durability test, and the results were beyond expectations. The screen started to scratch at a level six on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper scratches at a level seven, a standard result for modern flagships.

The flame test also showed impressive durability, with the AMOLED screen taking just twenty seconds to turn white before quickly recovering completely. Notably, Nelson's infamous bend test - which caused the Pixel 10 Pro Fold to explode - didn't cause the REDMAGIC 11 Pro to waver even slightly when pressure was applied to both sides.

After completing the disassembly, Nelson even reassembled the entire thing and turned the phone on without any issues, proving that the complex design doesn't affect the overall durability of the device.

Redmagic Pro 11's 'futuristic' liquid cooling.
