National Assembly and People's Council elections: Strictly adhere to the procedures for nominating candidates.

On January 13th, the Supervisory and Inspection Delegation of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and the National Election Council conducted a supervision and inspection in Nghe An province regarding the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and deputies to People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term. Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong led the delegation.

In Nghe An province , election preparations are being carried out seriously and in accordance with the procedures stipulated by law. The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province held its first consultative meeting to agree on the structure, composition, and number of candidates to be nominated for the 16th National Assembly and the People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

For the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly, Nghe An province was to elect 16 deputies. The first consultative meeting unanimously nominated 38 candidates, ensuring the surplus required by the Law on Election of Deputies to the National Assembly and People's Councils. Regarding the election of deputies to the Provincial People's Council, the number of deputies to be elected was 85; the number of nominated candidates was 222, ensuring the correct structure, composition, and surplus as prescribed.

At the commune level, all 130 communes, wards, and towns in the province have held their first consultative meetings as planned. A total of 2,922 representatives will be elected to the commune-level People's Councils for the 2026-2031 term; 6,329 candidates have been nominated, ensuring the necessary surplus for the selection and consultation process in subsequent rounds.

Along with the consultation process, Nghe An province has completed the designation of electoral units. Accordingly, the entire province has been designated with 6 electoral units for National Assembly representatives, with 16 National Assembly representatives to be elected. For the Provincial People's Council, Nghe An has designated 20 electoral units with 85 representatives to be elected. At the commune level, localities have completed the designation of a total of 1,041 electoral units for commune-level People's Council representatives, corresponding to 2,922 commune-level People's Council representatives for the 2026-2031 term.

Speaking at the working session, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong acknowledged and commended Nghe An province for proactively and seriously implementing election preparation work, basically ensuring progress and requirements according to the law; he requested the province to continue strengthening leadership and guidance on election organization work according to the motto of being proactive, early, from afar, in accordance with the law and safe.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized that members of election councils at all levels need to promote collective leadership, uphold the responsibility of Party members, officials, and civil servants in performing their duties, contributing to the overall success of the election. Nghe An province should continue to strengthen propaganda and mobilization efforts, assigning tasks appropriately with the spirit of each person doing their part well but also having a firm grasp of the overall work to be ready to coordinate and support when needed.

The province needs to ensure the full and strict implementation of procedures for nominating candidates, soliciting opinions from voters at their workplaces and places of residence; and carrying out the declaration, receipt, and review of candidate dossiers in accordance with regulations. The second consultative conference must be held no later than February 3, 2026; the third consultative conference to finalize the official list of candidates for National Assembly and People's Council representatives at all levels must be completed no later than February 20, 2026, in accordance with the law.

Nghe An province continues to review, update, and supplement the voter list, ensuring the voting rights of citizens, especially those working or studying far from home, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The province focuses on promptly addressing the opinions and suggestions of voters and the public; paying attention to handling complaints and denunciations related to the election process in accordance with proper procedures and authority.

The organization of voter outreach meetings and election campaigns must be carried out in accordance with the law, ensuring democracy, openness, and transparency. Relevant agencies need to proactively combat and prevent the misuse of elections to distort facts, defame, or falsely accuse candidates; and promptly refute false and inaccurate information related to the election and candidates in the mass media.

Local authorities have done a good job in ensuring political security and social order to serve the election; strengthening supervision and inspection, especially in key and complex areas. All forces participating in the election must adhere to the motto: "Hold the situation firmly, share information, reach a consensus on assessments, provide accurate, timely, and effective advice, and resolve issues efficiently, avoiding passivity and surprises."

At the meeting, the Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, Nguyen Khac Than, affirmed that the province will strive to overcome difficulties and create the most favorable conditions for voters to fully exercise their rights and obligations; ensuring the comprehensive and absolute leadership of the Party over the election work and that the election is organized in accordance with the law.

The Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee stated that the province is focusing on selecting and nominating qualified candidates, with an emphasis on female representation; reducing the number of representatives from the government sector and increasing the number of representatives from the Party, mass organizations, and commune/ward levels. The locality is also focusing on resolving complaints and denunciations related to candidate selection, ensuring democracy, openness, and transparency throughout the entire election process.
