The accident happened when a 12-year-old boy in Hanoi was playing alone in the bathroom and experimenting with alcohol. His family did not know until they heard cries for help and discovered flames coming from the boy. His relatives immediately put out the fire and took him to the National Children's Hospital for emergency treatment.
At the Emergency and Poison Control Department, after examination and necessary tests, the doctor diagnosed the child with thermal burns due to alcohol level II-III, accounting for about 19% of body surface area, mainly in the thighs, calves and right hand.
Master, Doctor, Doctor Phung Cong Sang, Head of the Burn Unit, Deputy Head of the Orthopedic Department, National Children's Hospital, said: " As soon as they are admitted to the hospital, children are treated according to a specialized treatment regimen, including sedation, pain relief, fluid replacement, cleaning the burn wound and specialized bandages that have antiseptic, pain-relieving effects, and limit further damage. During the treatment process, the team of doctors also supports psychological stability, provides nutritional guidance and counseling to help children recover better ."
Thanks to being taken to the hospital promptly and treated properly, the child's health has stabilized and he has been discharged.

According to Dr. Sang, burns caused by burning alcohol are one of the most common types of thermal burns in daily life, especially in curious children who like to experiment with flammable substances. “ Most incidents occur when there is no adult supervision ,” he said.
Like other types of burns, alcohol burns are divided into three levels: mild, moderate and severe. At any level, proper and timely first aid is very important to help reduce damage and prevent complications.
According to experts, prevention is the most effective way to avoid unfortunate accidents. Alcohol and flammable substances should be kept out of reach of children, not used in closed spaces or near fire sources. Parents also need to equip themselves with first aid knowledge and guide their children to recognize dangers and proactively prevent them in daily activities.
