According to Dr. Nguyen Hoang Tung from Ca Mau General Hospital, illnesses during seasonal changes often appear at different times of the year, such as from spring to summer, from autumn to winter, etc. The main reason is: "When the weather, temperature, and humidity in the air change suddenly between seasons, this change weakens the body, creating favorable conditions for viruses and bacteria to thrive. However, the most common illnesses are respiratory diseases such as influenza, sore throat, or other infectious diseases."
This can lead to a weakened immune system in many people, making them more susceptible to illness. Additionally, those with chronic conditions such as asthma, sinusitis, or allergies may experience worsening symptoms. Therefore, the transitional period between seasons is a time when everyone needs to pay extra attention to their own and their loved ones' health, adapting to the changing weather and maintaining good health during this time.
According to data recorded at the Da Bac Commune Health Station, in the first two weeks of May 2026, the unit received and treated nearly 100 patients with symptoms related to seasonal illnesses. The most common symptoms included fatigue and stress; muscle and joint pain; colds or allergies… primarily affecting young children and the elderly with underlying health conditions. Therefore, disease prevention combined with adjusting diet, rest, and exercise can help the body adapt and maintain good health during the transitional seasons.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Diep, 35 years old, residing in Coi 6A hamlet, Tran Van Thoi commune, whose 8-year-old daughter is currently being treated at the commune's health station, shared: “A few days ago, my daughter had a high fever, so my family bought medicine for her to reduce the fever ourselves, but it didn't work. When we took her to the commune's health station, the doctors there said my daughter had a sore throat and the flu due to the changing weather during the off-season. After 4 days of intensive treatment by the doctors, my daughter is now much better and is preparing to be discharged.”
This shows that preventing seasonal illnesses is essential. Parents should not be complacent and should not self-treat their children without a proper examination and treatment plan from a specialist. The best solution is timely diagnosis. When symptoms such as fever or infection appear, patients should be taken to medical facilities to find the true cause of the illness and receive appropriate treatment. This helps prevent the disease from progressing and causing complications that affect health later on. Patients should drink plenty of water. This keeps the body hydrated and helps eliminate toxins and mucus. In addition, keeping the nasal passages and throat moist is also an effective solution to prevent viruses and bacteria from entering through the respiratory tract and causing illness.
In addition, a balanced and nutritious diet is recommended to build antibodies; regular exercise is necessary ; and good personal hygiene is essential, keeping living environments clean with medical disinfectants. It is especially important to get vaccinated against diseases for which vaccines are available, such as influenza and other infectious diseases, to protect the body from viruses and bacteria during seasonal changes.
