"The hospital is implementing a development roadmap for the period 2025-2030 with the goal of becoming a complete Grade I general hospital, including a Trauma Center, playing a core role in the Thu Duc specialized medical cluster and the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City," Dr. Phong said.

The new facility has 1,000 beds, making it the largest in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City.

The Thu Duc Regional General Hospital was newly constructed by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee with a capacity of 1,000 beds and an area of over 54,000 m², comprising 10 above-ground floors and 1 basement floor. Its modern infrastructure enables the hospital to receive a large number of patients from Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Binh Duong , Dong Nai, and Ba Ria – Vung Tau – areas with 1 to 2 million inhabitants, high traffic density, and a high incidence of serious injuries.

Thu Duc Regional General Hospital was newly constructed with investment from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

From April to September 2025, the hospital completed the relocation of all outpatient clinics, laboratories, diagnostic imaging departments, and inpatient wards to the new facility; simultaneously, it implemented new medical examination software, cashless payment systems, and electronic medical records.

Over the five-year period (2021-2025), the hospital's total workforce increased from 677 to 958 people. The number of specialists (Level II) increased from 14 to 29; and the number of specialists (Level I) increased from 62 to 84. The hospital continuously sends its staff to participate in long-term and short-term training courses, developing its workforce in key specialties such as intensive care, internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesia.

By the end of 2024, the hospital was approved for a list of 10,606 techniques, covering a wide range of fields: Resuscitation - Emergency, Surgery, Pediatrics, Interventional Radiology, Endoscopic Surgery, Microsurgery, Laboratory Testing, Pathology, etc.

"A major focus in the 2025-2030 strategy is the establishment of a Level 1 Trauma Center – a model that the eastern area of Ho Chi Minh City currently lacks," Dr. Phong informed.

Dr. Ho Thanh Phong, Head of the General Planning Department at Thu Duc Regional General Hospital, presented a report at the conference.

The center is planned to have 14 trauma emergency beds, 20 surgical intensive care beds, 35 trauma and burn beds; a red alert system; an emergency operating room; on-site CT-Scan; and ultrasound and post-operative resuscitation rooms. The establishment of the center will help shorten the "golden hour" for treating severe injuries and reduce the burden on central-level hospitals.

Advancement in endovascular intervention – achieving diamond certification for stroke.

Endovascular intervention is one of the hospital's specialized areas, with techniques such as coronary intervention, neurosurgical intervention, flow diversion stenting, thrombectomy, aneurysm treatment, and embolization in multiple trauma cases…

According to Dr. Ho Thanh Phong, the number of DSA system interventions at Thu Duc Regional General Hospital has increased sharply, from 796 cases in 2023 to 1,049 cases in just the first nine months of 2025.

The hospital's stroke unit will achieve diamond certification in Q2/2025, after consistently achieving gold and platinum certifications in 2022-2024. The rate of revascularization in stroke patients increased from 9% (second half of 2022) to 22% (first six months of 2025).

A view of the conference plenary session.

Regarding collaborative activities, Dr. Phong emphasized that the hospital is particularly interested in them and will strengthen these efforts in the coming days. Currently, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital is receiving in-depth support from tertiary hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City.

Specifically: Binh Dan Hospital (specialized surgery); Gia Dinh People's Hospital (intensive care, interventional radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, training - quality management - IT); Children's Hospital 2 (neonatal intensive care, pediatric anesthesia and resuscitation, pediatric trauma); Ho Chi Minh City National Dental and Maxillofacial Hospital (development of maxillofacial techniques, especially maxillofacial trauma); Ho Chi Minh City Heart Institute (cardiac surgery); Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital (multimodal cancer treatment); 115 Emergency Center (coordinating the reception of severe trauma cases).

Aiming for international standards in certain specialties.

According to Dr. Ho Thanh Phong, during the period 2025-2030, the hospital will focus on three main objectives. First, improving capacity: strengthening Emergency, Resuscitation, Internal Medicine - Pediatrics, and Clinical Diagnostics.

Next is comprehensive development: perfecting the Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Dentistry, and Rehabilitation departments… Finally, there is a focus on specialization: endovascular intervention; neurovascular and oncology surgery; and the development of a Level I Trauma Center.

"Thu Duc Regional General Hospital strives to become a fully-fledged Class I hospital, one of the pillars of the Thu Duc Specialized Medical Cluster, and contribute to making Ho Chi Minh City a healthcare center for the ASEAN region," emphasized Dr. Ho Thanh Phong.

The 2025 Scientific and Technical Conference organized by Thu Duc Regional General Hospital attracted a large number of experts and scientists from both within and outside the country. The conference included one plenary session and five thematic sessions, with a total of 78 scientific presentations.
