At the question and answer session of the Can Tho City People's Council held on December 11, delegate Nguyen Van Dung stated that the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project is a group A project, invested by the Can Tho Department of Health , which has been under construction for 8 years and is not yet completed, and must now stop.

According to Mr. Dung, this is one of the projects in the city's "cluster" of wasteful projects and what is the plan to overcome this waste?

Answering this question, Mr. Hoang Quoc Cuong - Director of Can Tho City Department of Health, said that the City People's Committee has established a special working group to resolve issues related to this hospital.

After two years of working with ministries and branches and many online meetings with Government leaders, on July 15, 2024, the Government concluded to continue implementing the EPC contract with the same value and total amount as before. After July 15, the Department of Health followed this direction and worked with contractors to unify the list of medical equipment.

By November 8, 2024, Can Tho City proposed four contents to the Prime Minister.

First, adjust the project implementation period to the end of 2027. Second, adjust the project implementation capital from ODA capital to domestic capital. Third, adjust the list related to medical equipment and construction materials. Fourth, adjust the arising volume.

"According to current information, the Government Office is transferring this content to the Deputy Prime Minister for direction. After receiving the directive document, mainly on the capital source for project implementation, the Department of Health will advise the City People's Committee and the appraisal council to adjust the project implementation policy, mainly on the difficulty of the capital source, whether it is central or local capital, to continue implementing this project.

After determining the capital source, the Department will submit to the City People's Committee to adjust the policy according to the newly issued public investment law. After adjusting the project policy, if there is capital, the project will be restarted as soon as possible. In 2025, if the procedures for adjusting the policy are completed, the project adjustment is funded, and the project can continue to be implemented," said Mr. Cuong.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Le Thanh Tam - Director of the Department of Planning and Investment of Can Tho City, also said that he will coordinate with relevant departments to report to the City People's Committee to promptly complete the conditions for implementing this project to avoid loss and waste.

According to Mr. Tam, the above-mentioned Oncology Hospital project plays an important role because it serves the entire Mekong Delta region.
