The Daotang River is located at an altitude of about 3,300 meters above sea level, with a length of about 40 kilometers. This river flows through the Hainan Tibet Autonomous Region of Qinghai Province, China. Originating in the Chahan Grassland, at the western foot of the Riyue Mountains, the clear water of the Daotang River is like a pure white silk ribbon, quietly flowing charmingly across the green grassland.
Originally, the river flowed east, but due to changes in the Earth's crust and the uplift of the Riyue Mountains, the river's flow changed direction, flowing from east to west, creating a unique and mysterious natural phenomenon.
Along the Daotang River, there are historical relics and attractive landscapes such as the tent city and the golden wind-driven wheel. Here, visitors not only have the opportunity to admire the unique reverse-flowing river, but also experience traditional Tibetan cultural activities, such as horseback riding and archery on the Qinghai-Tibet grasslands. The natural scenery here is breathtaking, with vast grasslands, majestic mountains and winding blue rivers.
Daotang River is not only famous for its reverse current phenomenon but also associated with thrilling legends. One of the most famous stories involves Princess Wencheng, who once passed through this place on her way to Tibet.
According to legend, when the princess looked back at her homeland from afar, she could not see the capital city of Truong An, instead she only saw mountains and long, deep roads.
Homesickness and nostalgia for her homeland made her shed tears, and those tears mixed with the river, creating the phenomenon of the water flowing backwards. In addition to the story of Princess Van Thanh, there is another legend related to Long Vuong, the god who governs water, giving Daotang River mysterious and sacred elements.
Although it is only a small branch of Qinghai's river and lake system, the Daotang River still attracts tourists with its wild natural beauty and unique scenery. Located at the junction of Huangyuan County and Gonghe County, Riyue Mountain is not only a natural boundary between the pastoral and agricultural areas in Qinghai, but also known as the "Front of the West Sea", an important gateway to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
From the top of Riyue Mountain, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of Qinghai Lake, a large lake located in eastern Qinghai Province. The saying "When you climb Riyue Mountain, you will see the sky again" describes the magic and sense of space expansion when standing on the top of the mountain, looking out into the distance, and seeing the vast sky.
The Daotang River is not only a unique natural phenomenon but also a symbol of Chinese culture and history. With its mysterious legends and wild natural beauty, the Daotang River has become an attractive destination for those who want to explore the mysteries of heaven and earth and learn more about Tibetan culture. Although it flows in the opposite direction compared to other rivers, the Daotang River still silently writes its own story, quiet but profound, just like its special reverse flow.
