Exemplary village Party branch secretary, excellent producer.

Mr. Truong Thanh Liem, Secretary of the Party Branch of Hieu Le village (Phuoc Hau commune), has transformed barren land into an apple orchard, generating stable income and enabling him to become wealthy. He also actively encourages the people to develop production, contributing to the increasingly prosperous life of the Cham community in the area.

Born into a farming family, Mr. Truong Thanh Liem He has been involved with farming since childhood. Like many households in the village, his family mainly cultivated rice. However, because the farmland was located in a high-lying area, it often lacked irrigation water, resulting in low yields. To overcome the difficulties with irrigation, Mr. Liem renovated the land and switched to growing green grapes. In the early years, the grape vines provided a relatively stable income, helping his family's economy gradually improve. However, in later years, pests and diseases increased, and the cost of pesticides gradually decreased. In 2009, Mr. Liem decided to remove the grapes and convert the entire 1.5 acres of green grapes to apple trees. Thanks to proper cultivation techniques, after about 8 months, the apple orchard yielded a harvest and helped his family recover their investment. To this day, apple trees remain a source of income for his family. Each year, the apple orchard produces about 6-10 tons per acre. With an average selling price of 10,000 - 20,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, he earns an income of 180 to 200 million VND per year. Notably, Mr. Liem is also one of the pioneers in implementing the model of growing apples in greenhouses in the locality. Growing apples using this model effectively reduces pests and diseases, especially fruit flies; and primarily uses biological pesticides to control pests and diseases, thus saving costs, protecting the environment and the health of producers, and improving the quality and value of the product.

Besides apple cultivation, his family also grows 1 hectare of rice paddies. Notably, their rice fields are often selected by the local authorities as a model for testing new rice varieties, contributing to the application of advanced techniques in production. In addition, his family cultivates 2,000 square meters of bananas combined with small-scale livestock farming to diversify their livelihoods, ensuring a stable income. Thanks to their relatively good and stable income, Mr. and Mrs. Liem have been able to provide their three children with a full education. Two of their children have graduated from university and have stable jobs.

Not only is Mr. Liem a skilled farmer, but he is also an exemplary Party Secretary of the village. He always upholds the role and responsibility of a Party member, actively propagating and mobilizing the people to comply well with the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws; competing in labor and production, especially in changing the crop structure to improve productivity and efficiency. Mr. Liem shared: "To convince the people, I chose the approach of 'doing first, speaking later,' using the effectiveness of my own family's model to build trust. Thanks to that, many households have boldly changed their production, gradually increasing their income. Currently, Hieu Le village only has 2 poor households left."
